Need Help with signal flow to calibrate outboard compressor..PLEASE HELP!!

Hi all, im trying to calibrate an outboard compressor and im not quite sure how to route my test tone. i have a 1k test tone on one track that needs to go out to the compressor and back to the DAW on a different track. this has been driving me nuts for a few hours now. i would greatly appreciate some feedback and a little detail on the best way to accomplish this. PS sonar->patchbay>lynx aurora 8 Many thanks in advance, Chris

When you say "calibrate" what is your goal?

Do you want some specific dBFS meter level in SONAR to equal some specific meter level at the compressor?

Does the Aurora have a software app or hardware buttons to control the output levels?

Answering those questions should point you in some direction.

    best regards,

hi mike, thanks for checking out my post This what I ultimately need to do: Export a 1Khz test tone through the unit and back into the DAW. Adjust your volume levels so your DAW meter reads somewhere around -10dbfs. Now adjust the threshold knob on the compressor until there is 10db of compression (DAW should read -20dbfs). Adjust VR17 until the meter on the compressor shows 10db of compression. i don't know if the only way to do this is by external insert. chris

Yes, it's just and insert or a loop.

Here's one way to do it.

Pick an extra out put on the Aurora... something other than the mains you use for monitors.

Send you test tone track out to that extra Aurora output and hook it up to the compressor.

Take the compressor output and record it using one of the inputs on your Aurora.

Use the level controls and meters to get where you want.

If you need the return to sync up with everything you'll have to learn about the insert timing features. I don't know much about them.

    Good Luck.

    best regards,
    mike
