SONARPRD process will not die !
When X1C crashes on me as it is wont to do it refuses to die, oh yes the program terminates and closes from the screen but SONARPRD shows up in task manager and it will not end no matter how many times I press the end process or end process tree dialog. Taskkill will not stop the PID either. Eventually it dies . Before in 32 bit it was a hanging maudio prkeys controller that did it, and unplugging the controller releases the process, but not here It happens under win7 64 bit and any version of X1, Xic

it's a problem with MIDI controller drivers hanging on. disconnect your MIDI device before shutting sonar down and that should solve it.

Under x64 the process takes several minutes to end. Under x32 it's almost instant. That's what I've seen anyway.

yeah, disconnect everything from pc, most likely something is in use still by drivers.

Just ran into this minutes ago. X1 refused to be shut down. However, CPU usage was minimal and none of it was sonarpdr.exe. That told me that whatever is hanging is not directly a part of SONAR but rather a driver or other external library. In my case it was the MOTU driver that had decided to stop communicating with the firewire port. It was so bad that I couldn't even shut down Windows (OK, OK, yes I'm still on XP and - I know - W7 wouldn't do that) and had to literally pull the plug to reboot. Then everything was fine again. Just wanted to point out that although it's tempting to say "see? X1 fails again!" in this case it probably wasn't SONAR's fault at all.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Unfortunately I have a similar problem on Win7/64. I haven't had time to troubleshoot it but I get to the "Windows is shuttting down" screen and it stays there forever.

when Sonar freezes, I usually have to turn off my audio hardware (in this case, the profire 2626). This allows Sonar to quickly and completely shut down. My guess is it's some peice of hardware. Shut them down or unplug them one by one until you find the culprit.

for some reason sonar has trouble releasing certain drivers; if your audio interface is external, power-cycle it - this releases the drivers on sonar's behalf ;)

i have also somtimes problem the other way - when my audio interface VS-100 goes wild and have to reboot it sonar will complain that no audio interface is active but won't pick it up when it's on again. I have to restart the sonar, do you know other way?

It used to happen to me a lot in 8.3, but its better in 8.5. Of course other updates could have made the difference. In some cases it can be fixed by logging on and off rather than rebooting.

I have same issue, when Sonar have a crashes I take that opportunity to refresh my coffee and visit with my wife as not to pull wife aggro while recording. Restaring windows takes somewhere between 5-7 minutes for me before it's up and running again. So either way I am waiting around a while.
