Strange behaviour from bus - low volume
In a recent project there was a particular bus with a much lower output than it should have had. Volume and Gain were both set at zero and there were no effects and no envelopes, and yet any tracks with their output set to this bus sounded significantly quieter than they would if outputted to a different bus with the same settings. The meters indicated around 18dB lower on this bus. Weird! Eventually I gave up trying to figure out why this was happening and created a new bus and deleted the old one and the problem disappeared. I still have a backup of the project with the problem bus. If anyone has any ideas, I will investigate further.

I like a mystery. See if you can strip the project down to the bare minimum needed to show the problem: one short track and the wacky bus. If you can still duplicate the problem with that minimal project, I'd love to see it. PM me and I'll give you an ftp server to upload it to.

I'm busy for the next couple of days, but I will revisit this later this week.

Thanks to Bitflipper for solving this. Apparently the quiet bus was in "Offset Mode". I know nothing about this feature. I need to read the Sonar manual.

I'd like to see a poll: a census of how many people use offset mode versus how many have gotten into trouble by accidentally enabling it. Wouldn't be surprised if the latter count were considerably higher than the former.

I definitely fall into the latter category I've never used the offset feature apart from one time when I hit the + key accidentally. It took a couple of evenings to sort the mess out.

I've used the off-set feature a fair bit in situations where I have automated the volume for a track but just want to make it a bit louder over all. However, even though I know the off-set feature exists, I've mucked myself up pretty good on more than one occasion by inadvertently turning it on.

I've never accidentally enabled Offset Mode. I have enabled it to see what it did and found it, not only useless, but counter-productive.
