Activating track EQ button with automation or..?
Another question....I want to automate or activate the bass EQ a few seconds into the tune...I'm thinking that just by pushing the EQ button at the correct time it should work if the 'W' button is pushed....but, when I rewind back to the beginning the EQ button is still activated ...how to I make it record the EQ kicking in at just the right time, but resetting to OFF when I rewind to the beginning?

which version of sonar are you using and which EQ? you need track automation on (click on the "W") to get parameters in the automatable FX to turn on and off and to change parameters.

Was the W button enabled when you started playing the project from the beginning? Is AUTOMATION READ enabled for the Track/EQ?

I've tried clicking the W button...and the read button..basically all combinations lol...this I can probably dig thru the 1000 page .pdf reference doc that came with X1 Essential to get this figured out..

well - but you didn't answer my questions. not all FX are "automatable" you have to use one that allows sonar to pass automation parameters back and forth.

I"m using SONAR Essential X1c...I think your'e right..I'm not seeing the 'bracket' around the track EQ activate button...like I do on the faders, pan knobs, etc....has to be a way though...unless it's only on higher versions..

I think what the OP wants to do is just automate the effect either being ON or OFF which I don't think you can do in Sonar. (not sure about X1 but if it still cannot then it is a great omission. Other DAW's can do this easily) But there is a workaround. The Sonitus for example has two EQ's in there, the A and the B. You can automate switching between them so you could make A your EQ setting and B a total flat or non EQ setting. They should switch to the correct one depending where you are in the arrangement.

or possibly, do an insert with a EQ patch, and automate the envelope for it.

If the OP is talking about the channel EQ that is built in, you can't automate enable/disable EQ but you can automate the on/off for each band... which should amount to the same thing.

(not sure about X1 but if it still cannot then it is a great omission. Other DAW's can do this easily) Isn't it VST dependable - not in SONARs hands? Some VSTs are more automatable than others? On/off is extremely rarely automatable in my experience. I don't have experience from many other DAWs, though :o/

yes, it's VST dependent (mainly, as long as the host will accept all correspondence with that VST) in S8.5, the sonitus EQ (the per track EQ) can be "enabled" or "disabled" by write automation only on a "per band" basis. see the screenshot below there is a BYPASS button on the Sonitus EQ which you can see and use if you double click on the 'in track" EQ graph, it opens the full sonitus EQ GUI. but the automation for the BYPASS is not available. so for S8.5 and below (which has sonitus EQ available as per track EQ) you can automate ON and OFF by enabling and disabling each of the bands. but for sonar X1 with ProChannel, there is an ENABLE/DISABLE automation available for the EQ (as well as for the compressor and tube saturation) this is why I keep asking which EQ he's using and which version of Sonar. if he has X1 Producer then the answer is very different if he has S8.5 or below and if he's trying to use the "per track EQ" that MIGHT be different if he's using a 3rd party EQ.

Why not just automate the band? A smooth transition is usually better anyway.

Another way to do this is to split the clip and drag the shorter clip at the beginning into an empty (second) audio track. apply the proper levels of EQ to both as needed... one with, one without. Using two tracks, the result will sound like one track where the EQ kicks in at the proper place. Old school....... if nothing else works.

Beagle yes, but he still didn't say if he was using ProChannel or sonitus or something else. it's the Sonitus one....I've circled the super simple little button I'd like to activate on the bass track about 8 seconds in. It SEEMS to me this is the most dead simple, easy way to activate it EQ at just the right point to boost the lows (which incidentally as you can see, I had to crank round 110 hz up to +17 db's to hear an appreciable difference!) , but that button doesn't seem automatable for some reason, maybe it's my simpler version of the software?....

I can't see which "button" you've circled (maybe my old tired eyes!). but the list of what is automatable for Sonitus is shown in my screen shot above. each band is able to be automated ON or OFF, so if you're talking about the number beside that band, then yes, you should be able to automate that one either on or off.

Yeah, it's hard to see because the line is very thin and the circle is large. It's all the way on the left side, about 2/3 of the way up, right above the plot.

AH! ok- I was looking on the Sonitus GUI for it! yeah, that button is not automatable - the only way to achieve what you're wanting to do is to automate ON/OFF of each band like I mentioned above.
