Patch changing for NI synths (Absynth, etc.)

According to an article on the Native Instruments site, we should be able to change patches for some of the NI synths from within Sonar.

However, when I tried their tip of creating a "program list" within Absynth 5, Sonar's track view still can't see those patches; all the patches still say "disabled" or "empty". Changing the patch in the track view doesn't do anything either, so it's not just a labeling issue.

So I am wondering: is there a way to change patches in Absynth and the other NI synths from within Sonar (via track view), or are we forced to always use the synth itself to change patches?
