Menus and menu layouts went missing...in the middle of working. Sonar 8.5 Producer

Here's an awesome one. I was working on a song and everything suddenly became very, very laggy. I stopped playback, brushed it off and tried to right-click on an envelope node to edit it, but nothing happened.

Then I noticed that the main menu bar ("File", "Process", etc) only had two items in it all of the sudden - "Options" and "Help". Under "Options", there was only "Menu Editor".

I restarted Sonar. Nothing. I restarted the computer. Nothing. I went into Menu Editor. All of the dropdowns were completely blank and none of the buttons did anything.

Has anyone experienced something like this before? I'm really worried about it, especially since it happened while working in the program.

I can still open projects (from Windows Explorer). I can Save projects using CTRL+S.

Thanks for any help!

System: Intel Core2 6600 @ 2.4GHz, 4GB of RAM, Windows XP Professional x64

that sounds like a memory problem.  does this continue if you restart?

    Beagle,

After restarting the computer, it's still not working.

    Sad panda!

how about your monitor resolution?  did you maybe change the video resolution to something larger than sonar requires which would be a problem for the menu options and icons?

and does the envelope and editing stuff not work still also?  and does this happen only on this particular project?  what about if you try to start a new project?

Thanks so much for your help and suggestions!

I ended up finding a rather un-satisfying solution late last night...I installed an update.

The update was supposed to only affect Audio Snap, but it must have mucked around enough in other parts of the program to reset a few other things and I now have my menus back!

It's unsatisfying because I still have no idea WHY this happened in the first place. Nothing was happening or changed from one moment to the next...the menus and everything associated with them (layouts, etc) simply disappeared.

Anyways, thanks again for all of your help! I really appreciate you taking the time.
