controller pane questions

Hi All,

Thanks for all your help in here guys!

I have a few questions in regards to the controller pane. Lately I have been experimenting with controlling knobs, pitchbend and the modwheel. However I have noticed some issues when controlling certain knobs. For example I was trying to control the tune knob with symphobia and I noticed that a value of 63 in the controller pane was -28 on the tune knob and a value of 64 in the controller pane was +28 on the tune knob. As you would be aware I want to get to 00 on the knob but on the controller pane I can't seem to set the value to 63.5 or something. I am using CC#0 to control the tuner knob.

Also another thing I have noticed, is when controlling various knobs, such as  the tuner knob in symphobia, or the frequency knob in play (east west) it automatically starts with the default value. For some reason I can't set a different value at 0:00 on the controller pane, it has to be a microsecond after. Although a microsecond may not seem like much, for some instruments I would like different values at the start of the song. For example I may want the frequently to climb up at the start, however it sounds weird if the song starts with a different value and then climbs up.

Sorry if this isn't making sense!

is anyone able to help out with this? I have also posted this on the EW forum too (there doesn't seem to be a symphobia forum), no one has replied yet. I think this forum is my best bet as it relates to sonar, ie the controller pane.

MIDI tuning and pitch bend are controlled by Registered Parameter Number (RPN) messages which have a much higher resolution, using 14 bits (16384 values) to represent the full control range, rather than the usual 7 bits (128 values) of regular MIDI controllers, with 8192 being the center of the range. See page 716 of the X1 Reference Guide for info on sending RPNs.

If you're going to use a lot of controller or RPN messages to set up instruments at the beginning of a sequence, you'll generally want to use the first measure to do that, and start the actual music sequence at 2:01:000 so the synths have time to respond to all the messages before the first note event arrives.

Ok that makes sense, however in symphobia the tuning knob for some reason is controlled by CC#0, it even says on the interface it is controlled by CC, is there a way I can change it to be controlled by RPN? In EW play programs however frequency, resonance etc are all controlled by RPN.

I see what you mean about leaving a bar blank. I have been doing that from now on!

    Thanks for helping!

Odd that they did not ensure that a value of 63 or 64 give's neutral tuning. I think only the symphobia programmers can fix that.  And I don't know how you would go about re-assigning the control to an RPN. Unfortunately, I would guess that's not possible, either.
