Best way to go OMF ?

May sound dum, but: what would be the best approach to ''fill tracks from Zero'' so I get all tracks of a project to start at Zero in order to go OMF for reimporting into Pro Tools ? Should I ''record nothing'' up to the point where signal appear ? Or would OMF just fill it so all tracks will open in sync once reimported in the other host program ?

Also, what will I be able to keep ? What happen with volume enveloppes, mutes when saving in OMF ? Will it open with those volume decisions made into Sonar once I open it in Pro Tools ? (I understand that no plug-ins will follow though... But should I delete them to avoid trouble ?)

Just preparing to move the project for mixdown at another studio, and I want to make sure I'm saving time with such details... $$$

Thanks,
Rob

OMF should sort out all the timimg for you , it will not do midi only audio and any FX that are not rendered into the audio stems will not come across,(not sure if it works if you just freeze them).

Basically you need to have audio stems of everything you want to hear in the next DAW.

For any midi you'll have to export it as a .mid file

    Sonar X1c >> Pro-Tools 9.0.3

Timing is supported, no need to fill from zero.
    Envelopes / Automation not supported
    Mutes not supported

Select "split stereo tracks into dual mono"

    Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Motu 24I/O

Sonar 8.5 Producer, Pro-Tools 9, Avid Media Composer, Melodyne.
