Abandoning X1 for 8.5.3 for the Nth time...

I tried.  I really tried to get used to X1.  For a month I forced myself to use it and only it.  This was my third (and final) major effort to get on (and stay on) the X1 bandwagon.

But X1's workflow inefficiencies are just killing my productivity and enjoyment of music.

I HATE the fact that I cannot reliably alt-drag velocities on the fly.

I HATE the fact that shift-clicking on a clip doesn't always switch to clips mode, so I have to maximize the clip, and try again, risking shift-double-clicking, which zooms into the clip, which is not what I want.

I HATE the fact that I am forced to use the inspector in order to rename clips or adjust the time or key +/-/

I DISLIKE the fact that I can no longer change colors schemes during playback.

I DISLIKE the frequent dropouts/stutters, which happen most when I am saving or when I stop playback in record mode.

I came to LIKE the smart tool and the browser panel.  Those are kinda neat.  And I also LIKED the fact that Simple Instrument Tracks worked more smoothly in X1.

However, I just can't stand X1's bugs and the UI issues (primarily those listed above).  I just hate those things.  I hate them enough to go back to 8.5.3 yet again.

Sigh.

Bye bye X1, hello productivity.

p.s. Please Cakewalk, add back usability and reliabilty in X2.  PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the HATE/DISLIKE/LIKE system for categorizing feedback -- maybe Cakewalk should make an official feedback form based on it!  (I assume there would also be an additional category of LOVE...)

Who, name names. We must put a stop to that ASAP. Can't have that going on even though there is no one doing that.

Don't worry; the thread is only 3 posts old but there'll be plenty of people telling tripecac not only how they feel so much better about their use of SONAR X1 but how he should feel. Won't be too long.

I can't help but agree with the sentiment of his post.

I use 8.5.3 for recording and comping because it's use of screen space and CPU is more economical.

Final mastering is then done on X1 (for ProChannel) on a really fast machine with a really large screen.

I LOVE the fact that I can uninstall X1 and only load 8.5.3.

Since I used the word LOVE, it's a positive statement then right?

Hey, at least I was supporting a Cakewalk product. I could have said "and only load Reaper."

    Testy testy. Sheesh.

I LOVE debate. I HATE absolutes.

    Bapu!!!! How DARE you!!!!

Don't you know that sushi is to be loved, and Twinkies hated??? <smile>  You just caaaaaannnnnn't love Twinkies.

<in attempted authoritative voice that accidently comes out like a weak squeak>: "You vill love sushi, ve have vays of making you love sushi, unpleasant vays..."

Besides, if the "bakers" really wanted the easy way out, they would adopt the "sushi" (perhaps better described as the sashimi) principle = never have to worry about correct baking, since it need not be cooked.

<seriously> Totally agree that having junk from upstairs dumped down here is not good.

And of course, what is not to love about becan?

I find it interesting that Cakewalk moved this topic to the Coffee House, even though I had posted it in the Sonar X1 forum.

If Sonar 8.5.3 users are thinking about "upgrading" to X1, don't you think they will look in the X1 forum rather than Coffee House? Is Cakewalk scared of them seeing my post?

Does anyone else find it alarming that Cakewalk apparently feels the need to censor my remarks about X1? I didn't think my post was inflammatory or off-topic.

If other people are allowed to list the things they love about X1, why aren't we allow to list things we miss from 8.5.3?

I think they removed it because of my remark,
"I LOVE the fact that I can uninstall X1 and only load 8.5.3. Since I used the word LOVE, it's a positive statement then right?"
Sorry about that. I would encourage you to start another thread up there. This time I'll stay out of it.
