Works fine for a few minutes then sudden loss of sound/performance/speed of arpeggio?

Only just fiddling around at present. New project, midi controller plugged in. Add soft synth or two, then just fiddling around with sound ideas, settings, arpeggios and all is sounding fantastic.  Suddenly everything slows down, cracks up, distorts and just basically breaks. No recording going on, just simple keyboard playing going on.  It breaks for all modules, no matter which synth (only had two loaded) I set output to...

Can't find any way to reset apart from complete exit of X1 and then starting it up again... anyone heard of anything like this happening before?  It doesn't seem to be huge midi activity or anything as far as I can tell.

    softsynth?  which ones?

we need more info on your soundcard, CPU, operating system, driver mode and what your latency buffers are set to.

I had z3ta and cakewalk sound Center loaded and was messing about with the bladerunner combo when it went bad.

the problem is that your drivers are not efficient enough to handle the load.  increase your buffer latency slider to the maximum.

unfortunately the realtek is an on-motherboard soundcard with poor drivers and MME is the worst driver mode possible.

my best advice is to buy a "recording" soundcard with good solid drivers.  check my website for soundcard recommendations.

in the meantime, you can try to help your situation by downloading and installing ASIO4ALL and change to ASIO driver mode.  that might help.  it might not.

Thanks. Have managed to get asio4all working and that seems to have stabilised things enough for now. Appreciate the help, thanks.
