Control BOTH filter cutoffs on Z3TA+ using automation? Yes, they are linked.

I have both filters on an instance of Z3TA linked together so than when you move filter 1's cutoff, filter 2's cutoff does the same (and vice versa). But when I insert an automation envelope for filter 1 cutoff on that track, it only controls filter 1's cutoff and not filter 2's.

How do I get BOTH to change using the automation envelope??

you have to create envelopes for both filter cut offs

    Hi Vaultwit,

I just tried this out too, and double checked what the manual says.

Going by what the Z3ta+2 manual says, and experience with other synths that have linkable
controls, I would definitely class this as a bug.

    The manual says;

The link button lets you adjust controls in both filters at the same time. In this way, when Link is active,
adjusting the level of Filter1 also adjusts the level of Filter2.

The only exception stated in the manual is the pan control, but only that linking causes the pan
controls to move opposite to each other. They are still linked !.

The manual does not say that "Link" only works through the GUI, which appears to be the case.

If I link parameters in other VSTs, and use a controller to on one of the linked controls, the linking
mechanism works just as I would expect.

It doesn't make any sense that linking should only be available if you use your mouse to operate the GUI.
You should be able to perform this in exactly the same manner using a hardware controller to operate one parameter,
and the link should be operational.
So logically, the same goes for envelopes - the method of control should be irrelevant.

It seems the GUI is linked, not the filters, and that won't be what was intended.

Vaultwit, have you logged a problem report for this ?.
And if so, has there been any reply from Cakewalk ?

    Please let us know.
I'm really busy (like 'round the clock) for the next 3 days, but I'll come back here and check to see
if you've been able to give us any answer.

I've noted this on my todo list and will log a problem report myself, but it'll be a few days away.

    Cheers - Cliff

I've been using Z3+v2 on a few projects lately - and I've definitely been bumping into a few bugs, including some crashing.

I haven't checked that specific one, but it does sound like a bug unless linked filters are not exposed to automation to the host.

    Hey Bob,

there is a kind of a workaround available, don't know if it will suit you, but here it is.

If you can use Midi CCs rather than host automation, midi-learn both Filter cutoffs to the same controller.
Do the same for all other pairs you want to control.
For pan, you'll have to right click on one of the pan controls and select "Reverse" to have them pan opposite to each other.

Once you have some midi-cc data in your track, in the TV select the Clips dropdown ->Convert MIDI Controllers to Envelopes.
Use that process to turn the controllers you want to envelopes, and they will appear on the track.

Now you can edit the envelopes in the track view, select them through the track header Edit Filter etc.
You just have to have the controls in the GUI mapped to the correct CC#.

What you can do using this technique is actually quite a lot more flexible than just linking filters.
Try controlling different filter parameters together, setting ranges for them and reversing some.
It's a lot more powerful doing it that way than straight linking the filter. But linking is cool too and should work.

I've logged a problem report, I think linking should work for  MIDI-CCs and Host automation too.
