Patch Change Via Midi Controller

Spent a lot of time researching, but nothing has seemed to help. I'm just looking for a way to change patches in a VST (Massive, Dim Pro, etc...) via my midi controller. Using Sonar X1 Producer and a Nord Lead 2x as my midi controller. Would just like to be able to change what patch i'm using on the fly with a button on my midi controller. New to Midi, so additional help would be appreciated.

You'll need to assign a button on your controller to patch change and possibly another to bank change. Unless there's some way of temporarily setting the same button to bank mode.

Ultimately the way to do it will be (should be) explained in your controller manual.

I'm not exactly sure why this is, but it seems most soft synths do not respond to conventional Bank/Patch change messages or expose their patch lists to SONAR (or any host for that matter) so that they can be changed or browsed from the track header widgets that send those messages. Some synths respond to patch but not bank, and some respond to change messages, but don't show patch names in the widget, just numbers.

Basically you're stuck with whatever a given synth vendor offers. Some of the older synths bundled with SONAR do support bank/patch change, but Dim Pro and Rapture do not.
