Two projects open causes crash?

Curious to know if this is an issue others are experiencing -- so that I can try and get to the bottom of it.

I've noticed a trend where opening a second project causes a crash to occur a lot more quickly than if I just work on one project.
At first I thought it might be because I was opening two large projects and/or had my system up and running for a long time and suffered some memory leak.  But I've noticed this issue with a fresh restart of my system and nothing else running (and I should have plenty of RAM, 4GB, that I can comfortably use while doing a lot of video editing in Sony Vegas with, I might add, multiple projects open).

I usually try to stick to one project file open, but recently I've been merging ideas from a couple of projects and I can almost sense that disaster is about to strike so I'm constantly hitting the save button in-between edits.  But still, it's a productivity killer when you have to reboot your PC or wait for the resources to be released in Task Manager.

So, anyone else noticing this?  Obviously no need to provide input if you don't have two projects open at once...

    I've worked with 2 or 3 projects opened at a time with X1c without any issues. But this is on a new build with 16GBs of memory. I'm assuming you're on a 32 bit OS, hence the 4GBs. If that's the case, are you aware that you actually have approx. 25% less memory available to you, and that's not taking into account loaded OS processes and apps? So memory or more precisely, not enough memory could very well be a factor contributing to your issue.

    Without more details about your current hardware, it's unwise to even guess at what might be the cause.

    still, lack of memory should not cause a crash

    it doesnt necessarily relate to ram.  i have been opening multiple projects since 1gig was a lot of memory :)            the first time i ever crashed due to opening two projects was the first time i tried it in X1.  immediate crash.  it was the only issue i had with X1 in terms of stability.  X1b was better, but still sketchy.  X1c i just installed and havent tried opening two projects yet.  will let ya know.

    i just tried it.  no crash.  i didnt spend time working in them, but they were both decent sized projects and they both played, no problem.   when i first installed X1, this would cause an immediate crash.  generally, i would keep multiple projects running as little as possible.  do what u gotta do, then close one.

    Oh this is helpful.  Ican open more than one project.  I think you have to do it to copy screensets.

    @kc2ine:   indeed, LOL!

    @Alegria:  Yes, 32-bit OS and 4GB RAM (well three-point-whatever) but yet I am able to stuff that consumes more resources with video

    @pwal:   I agree

    @BlixYZ:  Thanks for trying.  I should have been clear in saying that it doesn't happen all the time for me.  X1c has been much more stable (to the point where I almost use it exclusively over 8.5) and I rather enjoy many of the newer editing features etc.  Often I can go on editing for hours with no issues.  However,  I just noticed that my last three crashes happened when I had multiple projects open.  The last time the projects were very small (one had MIDI only and the other had one audio track only) and I had just rebooted my PC -- that's when I went hmmmm...

    Anyway, it might have been coincidence.  What is odd is that sometimes I can almost sense it's going to happen.  Almost like a dog or whatever that seems to know that an earthquake is about to hit.  Woof!

    After a few hours of no issues it just happened again.  I think I may have a bit more of a recipe but no guarantees that it'll happen every time.

    In one of the projects I kept open the staff view (in project A) and then switched projects (to project B).  Did a bunch of edits in project B and then noticed that the Staff view from Project A was minimized but yet visible in the corner of Project B.  So I went to close that minimed window by hitting the X -- at which point I realized I might just as well close Project A completely.  At that moment of switching over, kaboom.

    I think there's something going on when there are other windows or plug-in effects open that are from one project but visible in the workspace of the other.  It gives the illusion of being present in the project in focus when it's not.  Maybe this is it...maybe not.  But I have to type something while I wait for it to "finish crashing"...

    I've had better days.
