Multiple tracks

I'm working on one now? It has "many..." tracks? I use Sonar 8.3? I am thinking at this point? (and it's not done yet...) That the best way to deal with it? Because it is massive? Is to render it to "stems?" and attempt to master it from there? Question? Do you "mix masters?" Do it this way? I would love a new DAW... With more horsepower? Where this is not an issue/qstn? However... It is what it is? (One of my greatest song titles...) So I'm wondering? "Mixmasters? Do you do it in the DAW? Or do you mix it down to "stems?" and master it that way?
Thanks...

This is a mastering question and not one that really belongs here in the song forum, you have posted no music so it's hard to answer questions of this nature.

What sort of computer are you using??  Any modern computer is quite capable of handling multiple tracks and you can mix and master from here.

What you are talking about is an advanced mastering technique and one that I am yet to be convinced is actually necassary.

i usually mix as i am going a little bit, i don't know how many tracks or what you are recording though. i tend to use busses to group similar tracks, ie heavy rhythm guitars will go to one buss, drums except kick to another, cymbals, vocals etc...sometimes this can help to make things easier from an automation point of view, or sometimes you have to go an work on each track...certianly if you have a lot of orchestral instruments, then it is common to sub-mix, say violins and violas, the brass instruments or whatever...
