That's a great pic Mike. I have attempted that a few times and so far have failed. The hummingbirds almost never land for one thing. They make fast food look slow the way they move. It usually goes something like this," Look there's a...............never mind, it flew away."

Thanks for looking everyone. I normally try to photo the hummingbirds when they are on nearby branches but the light was nice this morning so I set up my camera inside and opened a window by the feeder. The birds have been fighting over feeding time the last few weeks so it's sort of easy to get a chance to try the photos. best, mike

There is the possibility that those humming birds are not real . That would account for getting the pic.......course' I don't think Mike would do that. Everything we see here on the CH is bonafide.:)

That's a great shot Mike. :) I have a cool Hummingbird shot I got totally by accident. I think this was in Yellowstone but I can't really remember. Actually, all of my good shots are accidents, but if you take enough pictures, you're bound to get a good one eventually. :) Humming Bird on Orange Indian Paint Brush Flower 1500 x 845

I've never seen a real live hummingbird. That's the nearest thing so far. Thanks Mike, beautiful picture. They almost look like micro scale Green Woodpeckers, fantastic.

Jonbouy I've never seen a real live hummingbird. That's the nearest thing so far. Thanks Mike, beautiful picture. They almost look like micro scale Green Woodpeckers, fantastic. They really are quite a sight to see... we try to follow them from the feeder up to the branches they favor and that gives us a better chance of seeing them. Once they get on a branch they can disappear right into the small details. We've become accustomed to their chirping call... it's unique and once you recognize it's more likely that you will hear one than see one. We feel lucky that the feeders at our house get so much activity. It's fun watching them. best regards, mike

We've got several hummingbird feeders around our back deck...my wife loves hummingbirds...and I've gotten some pretty good shots over the years but that one is particularly nice Mike. Were you shooting a long lens or just quietly waiting for a close shot? BTW, them ol hummingbirds are constantly feudin, fussin and fightin. I love to watch them dive bomb one another and sometimes when they're playing chase they'll come within an inch of our heads at about eleventy jillion MPH. Zooom.

It was the 400mm on a tripod with a hand held trigger. It was pre focused and set for exposure. I just sat at the counter and snapped off a bunch of photos over about 1/2 hour span. The camera was probably 15 feet from the feeder. best, mike

I remember in high school watching a documentary on hearts and the hummingbird's always stood out as their little hearts were going about eleventy kazillion MPH!! Very nice pic Mike.

Absolutely Beautiful! Is that a feeder specially for hummingbirds? Is there something sweet inside, like juice or honey? I've never seen one. That reminds me I should finally build the bat shelters beside my pond.

My neighbors don't like it when I stock the Pteranodon feeder. They claim it's unsightly, unsanitary, and downright stupid. They'll even say that the reason I haven't successfully attracted any Pteranodons yet is because they're extinct. That's crazy talk, that is. All I know is that they're slower than hummingbirds, so I've got a better chance of taking a picture of them.

Hi Kalle, That is a humming bird feeder and it is something familiar in the USA. There are actually many based on this type of design and several other designs. They are all usually red with some yellow trim. We make a simple sugar syrup every few days. It is just boiling water and some sugar. Some people add vitamins and color and stuff like that. The birds seem accustomed to finding them everywhere as they cross the continent. The birds also enjoy many of the local flowers in season. It's really nice to see one work slowly through a flower bed. best regards, mike
