Need to buy an e-reader. Suggestions?

Never seen one, never used one. But a friend wants one for a birthday present, and one they shall have! Googling around, the Kindle 3G looks good. Any thoughts? Many thanks

    IMO you'd be way better off buying the cheapest tablet either ipad or android type.
    I am heavy ebooks reader and use toshiba tablet. For kindle you'll pay not that much
    less and you'll be very limited.
