Driving Down the Overseas Highway (Instrumental)

While my son and I were exploring the caves in Kentucky, my wife and her friend took a brief trip to the Florida Keys.  I used to go there quite frequently but haven't been in quite a while.  After hearing her talk about her trip, I got a bit nostalgic and this instrumental is the result.
I'm a bit out of my league since I am trying to use a touch of MIDI again  -----  so, any comments, crit's, suggestions, etc. would be very much appreciated.
Thanks for listening.

    Hey Freddy-
This created a definate vintage vibe that was cool.  Some of the note choices on the guitar were interesting but I think it added to the entire feel of the piece which made it fit perfectly together.  The synth pads really glued the whole thing and the mix sounded good to me.

The strings gave it a Moody Blues feel.

Hi Mike.  I seem to be stuck back in the past somewhere (or maybe it's just a phase) but unlike wine my vintage might be turning to vinegar :>)  Thanks for listening and taking the time to provide comments and feedback.

    Hey, Freddy,

You've got a very cool, tasty little instrumental going here!  I think the strings really added a nice airy feel to the song and were a great addition.

    Nice work, buddy!

hey Freddy I liked this little tune of yours! Some unusual choice of sounds together makes it sound unique. The lead guitar could definitely be more out front, personally I would have a less fuzz tone on the guitar, but that's a choice thing. You get into some very cool chords in the middle which elevates this song greatly! Mixwise, other than getting the lead out front a bit, it's all a bit cluttered in the middle, if you can, get the pads more out wide, and even the strings should maybe be widened, you wanna get the lead in the middle of that stereo field by itself! you may need to eq the synths as well, again with the aim of pushing the solo out. great tune though!

Thanks Bob.  Since I'm new to MIDI I'm never sure how it is going to go.  Thanks for the kind words buddy.

Hey Mark.  I only get unusual sound because I don't always know what I'm doing :>)  I very much appreciate your insight and comments.  They make sense and I will have to try them out.  Thanks again.

Hey.  This music is really good and you know what it reminds me of?  Nothing else, that is rare.  I think that is a very good thing.  Well I guess if I HAD to choose someone maybe Neil Young with Crazy Horse but I do think your music stands on it own very well.  I do think the mix itself could benefit from some tweaking here and there.  It is so hard to mix and the learning os never ending as you probably know.  I guess just try to take out an eq and try to give each instrument it's own place the best you can without effecting the sound of each part the best you can.  Also panning can help with this of course.  I am no expert though so maybe look online for tips or something.  I bought the mixing engineers handbook but have not read it in a while, I think it is time to take that out again for myself.  But sorry to go OT, the instrumental is great just seems the mix could be better.  I would try to work on that some more.

So Freddy, this was 'inspiration by proxy' then?   No matter, it turned out quite nicely.  I found myself wanting to hear the lead a little louder, but other than that it sounded great.

Hi William.  Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.  I went back and listened and you're right -- some of the instruments do get a bit bunched up in the middle.  The panning could be better and I might try tweaking the EQ.  That is when I get done with this new stuff I'm doing.  Thanks again for the input.

Hellooo Scotty.  Thanks for the listen and good words.

Hey Mark.  Thank you.  I really appreciate the kind words and feedback.

Hi Phil.  Yes, it seems that I do live a lot of my life vicariously.  I appreciate the feedback.  The lead does need to come up a bit and needs a bit of definition.  Thanks again.

Hey Mark.  I'm glad you liked it and I always appreciate your feedback.

Much about this reminded me of the 60's and yeah, it had a Moody Blues feel in a few places.

I loved the Moodies.... such pretty music and beautiful melodies and harmonies

Thanks Herb, I appreciate you taking time to listen and comment.  The Moodies were also one of my favourites.
