Do Bundles convert 24-bit audio to 16-bit?

I tried several searches for "bundle" on these forums, and the manual offers nothing on this, so here goes....

Does SONAR convert 24-bit audio in a project to 16-bit when saving .CWB files, and then convert it back to 24-bit when you re-open the file?

I created a 24-bit/44.1kHz SONAR X1c project with a few tracks and wanted to send it to someone. To "bundle" it all up, I used SONAR's Bundle file format. However, when I unpacked it to test it, I saw SONAR state that it was "Loading audio data 16-bit". When it was finished, I had a 24-bit/44.1kHz project open, but I have no idea what SONAR to the audio.

I do know that saving the audio separately from the .CWP file (as its own .WAV file) resulted in a much larger file--roughly three times the size of SONAR's .CWB file.

Anyone know what's going on here?

Thanks!

Steve

I don't think there is a conversion to 16 bit. There is compression though.

Your project will be the same bit rate and smaple rate at which it was last saved as.

It could be your friends DAW's settings

    Thanks, John and CJay.

I think I see the problem: SONAR isn't converting the audio data, but that same audio data doesn't necessarily match the settings you have for the file. So, if you have a 16-bit/44.1kHz file (or if those are your default settings) and you open a 24-bit/48kHz bundle, SONAR will still display 44.1/16 in the transport window, even though the raw audio data is considerably higher-resolution audio (which you can see by checking the properties for the associated audio files).

Seems that could get a bit confusing....

    Thanks again!
