Workflow With MIDI in X1c

I've been running X1 for about 3 months, working almost exclusively with audio tracks and audio loops.  Today I imported a MIDI bass track and attached the SIBass soft synth.  Everything was great.  Then I tried editing the MIDI track by double clicking on it in the track view.  I was used to working with the piano roll in Sonar 8.5, and I found the MIDI workflow in X1 very confusing, especially the display of two versions of the track with what appeared to be different editing capabilities for the two versions.  I wasn't able to set the snap properties of either view consistently, so inserting a note did not snap to 1/4 or 1/8.  If I cut a clip section of MIDI and then pasted it at another point in the track, I had to readjust the time of the start of the clip to match the beginning of a measure.  I found this intensely irritating.  What am I missing about snap times?  It also appears I can split the MIDI track in the track view, but no longer in the piano roll view.  I can't believe it, so I'm asking what I'm missing again.  It seemed like the help topics regarding MIDI were not very useful.  Is this just my inexperience with MIDI in X1C?  Are there any tutorials clarifying MIDI workflow in X1C?  Thanks in advance for any help or advice about how to get up the learning curve, or even just a "shut up, idiot."

You probably want to turn magnetic strength off in the snap and nudge section of properties.
I have found I like it better when I switch tools to work in midi use smart tool for moving notes, F6 for selecting notes, F9 for drawing velocities and such.  I saw an improvement in midi use after this.  Hope it helps.
