Just reinstalled X1 (plus C). I swear my music sounds muddy compared to 8.53!

Well, the title says it all. I would swear that the song playback coming out of X1 Producer has a slightly muddy sound compared to 8.53. My songs consist of a combination of direct recorded instruments and a few midi tracks feeding Dim Pro and an occasional other VI.

Am I crazy, or are there default settings I'm not aware of, or both?

Thank you for any thoughts.

    - Open the project in 8.5.3 and export a dump
    - Open the project in X1 and export a dump
    - Import both dumps into either 8.5.3 or X1
    - Flip the phase on one of the dumps
    - Press play

If you hear silence, then there's no difference and you're hearing things that aren't there.

If you do hear something, take note of what it is - that may assist in tracking back what the story is.

Be aware that many synths and effects have randomness built into them that will result in a different performance every time you play/bounce/freeze/export them, making it difficult to get perfect nulling with a complex project.

If an exported track won't null with the live playback when re-imported to the version from which it was exported, you'll need to look into saving a copy of the project with at least some synths and FX frozen before exporting from either. And don't forget to turn off dithering, though that should be audible only when you crank the levels.

I'll bet you have the 64 bit Double Precision Mix engine turned off.

    ;-)

    Just guessing though.
