Looking for Studio Experts!!!
I'm new to Sonar X1 Studio and have a couple of questions in hopes to help me out. 1. I've been trying to fix tracks by drag and drop method but it just seems to take forever to get it just right. Sometimes I get so frustrated I find it easier to just start over and record the whole thing until I get it right. What is the secret? It has to be simple. 2. I'm looking for a good vocal harmonizer that will works with Sonar Studio. I have Windows 7 on my CP. I need 1-4 part harmonies. Thanks so much! BM88

what do you mean by "fix tracks?" are you trying to just move them in the timeline and when you drag and drop they're not dropping in the timeline where you want them? if so, change your snap to grid settings on the control bar. if not, you'll need to explain what you mean by "fix" them. vocal harmonizer - you can do that in v-vocal, but that's not what it was desinged for doing, so your results may not be the best. there are other products out there which are specifically designed for that purpose like antares harmony efx, TC Helicon Voice Modeler, waves ultrapitch

What I mean by fixing, as in I made a mistake like a wrong note and I re-record that part and now I want to insert it and delete the old. Thanks for the help! BM88

on the wrong notes.... audio or midi? each gets edited differently. For audio, zoom in on the note that is wrong or better yet, the musical phrase. Try to find a silent place before it and after it. Split the clip in both places.... highlight the clip with the bad note and set your punch in point ON that clip... then back up the timeline and click record. Start playing along or singing with the music..... when X1 gets to the punch point it will start recording and stop recording at the exact place to re-do the clip..... One additional thing... Once I get the punch points set I will delete just that one little clip I'm going to replace. for midi... just select the track and then open the Staff view or the Piano Roll view, whichever you like better and simply find the bad note and drag it to where it should be. Right clicking the note opens the note properties where you can alter the velocity and the duration as well as the starting and ending points of the note.

You can either................ Cut a good section from another part of the song. ie. Chorus 1 is bad chorus 2 is good, Cut Chorus 2 drag and drop into chorus 1 with "replace old with new" selected in the paste dialogue box. Alt+left click to cut. Or you can punch record just the 'bad' section with a fresh take. Check the manual for punch record

Yup... I have, more than one time, done exactly that... copy a whole chorus and paste it rather than trying to fix something gone wrong.... harder to do on a verse if it involves lyrics.... but the music will paste over the bad parts just fine. Use the clip properties to get the paste exactly right.

Why not just "snip" the portion that you want to punch in on - say for a measure or two. Then "select" the portion you "snipped" and on clip properties "MUTE" that small clip. Then with Sonar set to record sound on sound, just re-record the part starting a measure or two before the part to be replaced - so that you can get the feel for it. Have the track setup to "show layers" / or lanes as most people call them. The new part will be recorded in it's on lane. Or you could set up a punch in and out point. Regardless of how, if you are not happy with the take, just mute that lane and keep on going until you are. The whole deal goes VERY quick really and only takes a few seconds to set up. Much fater than reading what I just typed.
