Problem with my Sonar X1 and session Drummer!!!
well, im new to sonar. I have done some projects on this DAW and I allways encounter a problem that is really getting on my nerves. I own Sonar X1 producer (build 184) I record drums on 7 tracks, and i like to use (audio snap) to trigger the bass drum into session drummer, ocassionally i do the same with other drum tracks. Finally when i finish tracking every instrument down and start the mixing process is when i start having the most problems, I thought is was the CPU, since i had a 3gbRAM , 2 core duo processor, windows 7 64bit. I bought a new computer yesterday its a 8Gb Ram, i5, Windows 7 64 bit, (wich is a very considerable upgrade compared to the previous computer) BUT I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS!!! when i use vsts, somehow session drummer stops trigerring, and it sounds horrible, because i mute the original bass drum track so session drummer can be the bass drum, and this stops playing where it should, causing my whole drum mix to sound like crap... I am really desperate right now because i know i didnt waste my money on something that wouldnt work right. (virtually impossible!!!) Also this happens with other midi instuments too, mostley with session drummer though. But its a real pain in the ass having to sacrifice certain fx just so SD doesnt crash. HELP MEEEEEEEEE

I only use SD to get a kit put together that I want, and I never use effects or VSTs on a softsynth. When I get SD mapped with the right drum kit and the right midi notes, I mix down each drum to its own audio track. Then I mute the midi/SD. Once the kit is all on audio tracks, then I can treat em with effects and such, pan/level/compress, route em to a drum bus, etc. I do this with all midi. I never have a final product with any synths running. I only use the softsynths to get a sound I want and make an audio track of that. The other option you might have is to freeze the softsynth, which basically is the same thing. Edit: In rereading your post, I may have misunderstood your trouble, in which case the above may not be very helpful

yeah the way you use softsynths is the i used to do it, it actually works good, because that way you could treat it as if it was the real deal, like any other audio line recorded. Allthough ive seen some tutorials and they really got my interest towards just mapping the midi and letting the softsynth play it back while you record whatever is left. Im pretty much tired of bouncing the softsynth tracks as audio data, i wish it could work the (modern way) And basically my trouble is, that using to many soft synths and fx is making some synths not work properlly when i play back the session and or / mix the session , i own sonar x1a ... and im not really liking the workflow, im sure its not the new computer i have because its (virtually impossible) for it to not work better than my previous computer. But hey thanks dude

Try the Freeze thing. It'll take the synths out of the picture till you need to modify them again. You may have too many running as the cause of your problems, freezing the ones you aren't directly working with may help.

☄ Helpful
rokadavis: Is the PC a dedicated DAW or is it more general purpose with internet connection, anti-virus and loads of background tasks running and so on? How much cpu loading is there when running projects with problems? Don't just check with the display in Sonar, take a look at Task Manager as well. If you're loading the cpu too much then freezing tracks is often the best way to deal with the problem. Have you run a dpc latency check? If not, I suggest you download the tool from http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml and see what kind of numbers you are getting. Too high a dpc latency can cause all kinds of problems with real-time audio, so needs addressing if it's happening. If the problem is MIDI notes skipping/being missed, try increasing the MIDI buffer size in Sonar.

Go to Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording, and increase the value of Prepare Using <value> Millisecond Buffers. X1 defaults to 250 which is too low for a lot of systems. The old default was 500. Start there, and increase in increments of 100 as necessary until the problem goes away. 500 will usually do it, though. This is by far the most common cause of dropped notes with soft synths.

if none of the above work (they sound like they should, but I had a similar issue with a different solution) try changing your soundcard settings, I did this and stopped the drop out of random notes from SD with Step Sequencer D

Just a thought here...you are on X1a according to your posts. Perhaps you should try applying the patches to get yourself up to X1c.
