Not understanding integration between Event Filter, Event List and Piano Roll

I'm learning to use these tools in the process of removing short-duration artifacts from MIDI tracks, and am mystified by a couple of things:

- Event Filter: whatever parameters I specify in the Event Filter tool, it doesn't seem to have any effect on what appears in the Event List.  How does one use the Event Filter tool?  It doesn't display any actual data, so I assume that creating a filter must act on some other display like the Event List and/or the Piano Roll view, but i see no such behavior.

- If I delete an event from the Event List, it disappears from the Piano Roll view, and that's great, but to use these tools together, first you have to ensure that you're displaying the same MIDI tracks in both windows - if you change one, it doesn't change the other, so you have to change them both to keep them in sync.  Is there any way to make them automatically stay in sync?

 - I just finished manually deleting a few hundred short-duration artifacts from 6 MIDI tracks (produced by a MIDI guitar interface) using the Event List.  Is there any way to automate this procedure based on note duration (e.g., delete all notes of less that 100 milliseconds)?  I was hoping to use the Event Filter to do this in one simple step, but can't figure out how to use the thing...

I've consulted the on-line help and my usually dependable SONAR X1 Power!, but no lightbulb.

Event Filter is non-destructive MIDI FX that operates in real-time on the output of the track. It will not delete events; it just prevents them from being sent on playback or echoed from live input.

To remove events under a certain duration you'll want to use Edit  > Select by Filter, and then Delete.

The Event list, PRV and Track View should stay in sync as you make edits in any of them.

Thanks for the explanation.

I noticed that the filtered events are flagged in the Event List - that's a kind of visual confirmation I was looking for.  Selecting Edit > Delete without seeing an actual list of the filtered events is too much of a leap of faith for me!

It would be nice if the user could elect to view only the filtered events in the Event List.

Instead of deleting them, cut and paste them to another track, and open both tracks in the PRV. The events will be in different colors so it will be obvious what's what. And if it turns out your filter picked up a couple events that should have been left in the track, you can just quickly cut and paste them back, rather than having to re-filter with different settings.
