X1c and Sonar plus

I just ordered the boxed 8.5- X1 upgrade from Etcetra in the UK (about 10% lower than the down load price even after postage is added)
 
I have one question, does Sonar Plus work with X1c, the website says the current version is for X1b.

I've been so busy recently that I simply haven't had time to look at it. As John says, it still works, it's just that it can't start SONAR for you like it can with X1b.
Given my hectic life at the moment, and because it basically works with X1c, I think it's more likely I'll wait until X1 Expanded comes out and update it then.

Awhile back I installed X1c and yes Sonar Plus did work however I couldn't get note durations  to show in the staff view.  Note durations were showing in the piano roll view.   I was working on an orchestral score at the time and really needed to be able to select note sizes easily from within the staff view.  I ended up roling back windows7 to before the X1c install.   So, I am still working with X1b and will stay on it until  the next Sonar Plus update.   Thank you  Ben for all the work to make X1 more usable for us notation folks.

The note duration buttons in POV are working in staff view, too.

So, as a workaround, you can resize a (undocked) POV window to a very small window (just big enough to see the note buttons) and place it where you can get best access of it while editing in staff view.
Then use these buttons to change note durations in staff view.

I thought that the latest version of Sonar Plus had note duration icons right in the staff view as seen on this page:

That's right for X1b, but with X1c the icons are still in PRV but no more in staff view.

...You are a brave person, attempting orchestral scores in the staff view...
wow--no kidding.  I know people do that, but I don't get it - PRV shows you so much more info.  Once a notation-oriented composer gets behind what's happening in the PRV, that's the place where so much more can be done than the Staff View.

Over the years I've just gotten used to the staff view for orchestrating in Sonar and I do use PRV too.  I can view multiple tracks more easily with the staff view.

 

Just out of curiousity, how do you deal with limitations, such triplets which may begin with a rest?

That's an excellent question.  Sonar doesn't make it easy to place a triplet in any other than start point of a quarter, half note or whole note space.  If you click off position for the pause you want you just get one note of the triplet.  Depending on the pause you want you can enter a triplet followed by another triplet and delete ones of the triplet notes want for the pause.  Clumsy and not perfect either.  Since I don't score for publishing and just do stuff on my DAW using orhcestral synths, I don't worry too much about how it looks on the staff.  If I can't get what I want from the staff view I use the piano roll and edit there.  - Michael F.
