Sound in Sonar suddenly disappears

I was in the midst of working on a mix in Sonar Producer 8.5 that uses audio and soft synths (Garritan GPO and JABB) as mockups for tracks to yet be recorded. I soloed and unsoloed the soft synths and suddenly I have no sound coming out of Sonar, although the meters in Sonar are running. Restarting Sonar makes no difference. I check routing and audio drivers, which seem to be fine, as far as I can tell. I opened Sibelius and was able to play back the source of the mockups through Garritan in Sibelius. I also was able to export an audio file of the mix, which played back just fine. Rebooting the computer and resetting the M-Audio Profire 2626 interface made no difference. I am using XP SP3. Any ideas? I have a session scheduled for this Thursday and need to get this issue resolved soon. I would appreciate any suggestions.

If the meters on your master bus are moving, make sure your master bus is routed to the hardware outs and not muted or turned down (e.g. automation on the master bus). Try playing a file with Windows Media Player.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

my first guess would be that your output has reset to SPDIF on the profire.  check your outputs and make sure what they're set to exactly.

    Bitflipper,

Thanks for the helpful reply. I did check the routing carefully, and I discovered that it was a soloing issue in the soft synth. The various Garritan instruments were no longer soloed, but I was missing that the synth itself was still soloed, although I could not see it. Problem was solved!
