windsurfer25x Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard I had, I say had, this board. It was fine as long as I did not use my firewire interface/controller (Tascam FW-1884). DPC Lat was normal without the FW-1884, but nearly through the roof with it. This was on a TI Fire Wire card*. If you're not using a Fire Wire controller/interface you'll probably be fine. *Gigabyte is now using Via FireWire chipset, not TI.

do NOT buy the Mushkin redline or any mushkin at this point for Sandy Bridge. fine for X58 and Xeon. corsair, OCZ would not touch either.

windsurfer25x and three: Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS 2TB 7200 RPM 6.0GB/s 3.5'' Internal Hard drive Consider substituting one of the drives with a smaller faster one, e.g. a Western Digital VelociRaptor. You don't need 2TB for a system drive.

Why only 8GBs of ram? Why choose the Core i7 2600k when also purchasing a GeForce GTX 580? And as per Kev999, why such a big mechanical OS drive? "jcschild" Mushkin, corsair, OCZ would not touch either. What brand would you recommend for the SB Scott?

Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS 2TB 7200 RPM 6.0GB/s 3.5'' Internal Hard drive 6TB? That would take me a lifetime to fill 50%.

What kind of trouble should I expect? if its working then good! and are you actually running @ 1600 and your timings are 7-9-7? are they 2 gig sticks or 4gig? we have had a lot of memory issues with SB with 4gig sticks, Mushkin changes ICs a lot we had to stop using them due to incompatibility with SB systems. (tends to be micron as well) we had to get Samsung chips on the modules for compatibility. Super Talent is who i went back to. but now there is a shortage of samsung ICs in the channel. FYI unless they specficially say Samsung they are not...

Do you intend on using the "Marvell" controller, and if so, let me know how it turns out for you. That's the only problem I've had with the P8Z68 mobo. I simply don't use it. And when I'm ready (to expand with SSDs for my libraries), I'm going to have to look at a PCIe solution (lot's of affordable options here). How much did it cost you for your Intel SSD?

$309 Right now with the flooding in Thailand and HDD pricing it seemed feasable

I know... I have 2 600GBs raptors (SATA 3) that I purchased at the beginning of the summer, when the price was right. Ouff! Aside Intel's known reliability when dealing with SSDs, did you get a chance to look at OCZs offerings. Particularly the Vertex 3 models. Performance-wise, they run circles around the 320 series for about 30% less $. But regardless, you won't go wrong with an SSD.
