    Define "Large"

I have recently been working with files in excess of 2GB on my work laptop (Win 7 64 bit) and did not encounter any problems copying to local drives, network drives or a drive on USB 2

The upgrade to Win 7 solved a problem I used to experence frequently when copying large files to a mapped network drive using XP.

I don't know the particulars of the limits of size however, I am trying to copy a file from DVD that is about 1.73 gigs. It just stops and freezes  after about 25% of the way.

I don't think I have tried copying such a large file from a DVD. If I get chance I will try it tomorrow and see what happens.

I routinely copy +2GB size files between hard drives using Win7 x64. There is a workaround you can try for your particular problem, but if the DVD is copy-protected it may not work: Use a CD copy utility like ImgBurn to make an ISO image of the DVD. This will, in effect, copy the contents on the DVD to your hard drive. Now you'll need to load the ISO file with something like Daemon Tools (the lite version is free and it works fine in Win7). Once you've loaded the ISO you can simply drag and drop the contents of the ISO to another location on your hard drive. I admit this is a convoluted way of getting the DVD to your hard drive, but if it's not copy protected, it should work.
