whats the best way to convert wav bass track to midi data

Hi friends
I want to take some well played but not so good tone bass tracks and convert them to a bass midi track so i can trigger bass samples with them. Whats the best way in Sonar 8.5?
thanks in advance

Melodyne (3rd Party Plug-In) does pitch to MIDI conversion.

The whole pitch to MIDI is a bit of black magic and will not always work perfectly.

    YMMV.

V-Vocal has a pitch to Midi converter, but I don't know how reliable it is, I've never used it myself.

Like all V-Vocal processes, it will only work reliably on clean, monophonic lines which should be fine for bass unless of course your bass player is in the habit of playing chords.

If this is the case then I suggest you split the bass track up into separate, short clips to work on and bounce each one down once you've finished your tweaking - in fact this piece of advice is widely considered to be the best way to approach ALL V-Vocal processing.
