Yeah, don't know how well. Suppose it depends on what you import. If you mark the clip and enable Audio Snap on the clip you'll have an option in the audio snap palette to adjust project tempo to clip... or something like that. could be called: Project follows clip or simmilar. I just shut down my DAW for the night but I'll look into it tomorrow unless someone else chimes in with the answer;) but it's doable

if the imported audio is set to a fixed tempo then yes, you can adjust the tempo to that audio track. However, if the imported audio is 'live' (tempo goes up and down) then I defer to someone who knows if it can be done because I haven't figured out how.

Not automatically, but with your guided help, you and sonar together can achieve a perfect grid to your up and down audio tempos. Either manually drawing the metronome up and down, or by using the Set Measure's/beats at now. Both are time consuming (till you get good at it), but are worth the effort later.

Why can't they just fix Audio snap to work as it should? As illustrated in the Groove 3 Sonar X1 videos, this shouldn't be to hard. However, I also have issues with as it seem hard to work with Audio snap and imported audio clips (samples) in X1 c. I haven't been really successful so far.... Sony Acid is a help for me - a shame

offnote brundlefly Check out this post, and the rest of the thread that follows it: http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2304798 you sent me to post where I found out it is bug in Sonar preventing this feature... I would not say "the feature is prevented". Yes, there are some bugs and shortcomings that can make some things difficult or cause imperfect (but probably still acceptable) results, but it can be done more or less easily, depending on the material, and how much of a perfectionist you are. In my opinion, the best option is to use Set Measure/Beat at Now to do the whole job. It will yield the best results, and once you get the drill down, it's not much more work than tweaking a clip tempo map to the level of precision needed to get comparable results with Set Project from Clip.

I sometimes listen along to a recording, making a midi recording as I tap the beat on a key. Then I use Fit Improvisation to extract the timing. You can copy the tempo events (which often go at the beginning of the recording) and paste them to the start of the tune... Then use the draw tool to draw a line through the peaks and valleys of the tempo to smooth them out. It's not as good of a solution as setting the beat to now as described above, but it's quick and dirty and useful for syncing delays to tempo.
