Cannot Install X1 - Ox3 Error

I am running XP Pro (32 bit) w/ SP3 and have tried to install my Sonar X1 producer many times. I get the error,

 "C:Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\VS700.dll

Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code Ox3."

I have tried uninstalling all versions of Sonar, right clicking the .EXE and loading  as administrator, as well as tried Ignoring all errors (as there are many .dlls that look to generate this error), and nothing works. I get the same errors every time I try to install. Can someone help?

Btw, I am attempting to load this from a download, not the CDs.

Thanks

Can you verify that "regsvr32.exe" is in the c:\windows\system32 directory?

Well another theory shot to s**t.

I did google it last night when bored. There was a microsoft technet article that describes the error message, but it didn't have remediation.

Assuming there's not a problem with the DLLS themselves (and you may want to contact Cakewalk to get another download link just to be sure), the problem appears to be in their registration. In my experience, when DLLs don't get fully registered/unregistered, those types of errors occur.

What I might try is to write down the first DLL that throws that error. Then open a command window as admin and manually run regsvr32 and unregister that DLL, then see if the install will get past that point. If it does, I would write down all the DLLs and their paths, manually unregister all of them, and then install. Easier would be to wipe the machine and install windows fresh and then sonar, but I know what a pain that can be.

    Good luck.

    Yeah,
I am going to try and contact Cakewalk and see what they have to say about this. I can't believe they would not have seen this problem in the pre-lims.

I do have X1 installed on a WinXP 32 machine, as do at least a few others, so I don't think it's a general problem. Are you installling to your C: and to the default folders?

It really sounds like it's a Windows issue, or possibly some corruption in the download. I assure you, not being able to install X1 is NOT a confirmed widespread bug.

Well, that I am glad to hear. I am installing at the default folder on the C: and am still working to try and get this issue resolved. I really have NO idea what's wrong at this point. On the phone today, the Cakewalk guy told me to make sure I ran the .EXE from the C: and not from an external drive, and that I should try creating another windows administrator user account. I did both of those things and got the same result. So now I am back to the drawing board. Hmmm....

Issue solved! Ok, the issue was that since my studio computer was not connected to the internet, for the longest time, I had not gotten all the numerous amounts of Windows updates, including SP1, SP2, and over 150 other updates. My tech and I did I restore point to two days ago, installed all Windows updates, and then installed X1. It worked! We are good but now I have to relearn everything b/c X1 is way different than 7 and I don't know where things are.
