Looking for a Mixdown/Mastering guru who will contract for services
I hope to finish the recording portions of an album late this year and I'm beginning to think that the mix/master portion of this project needs to be in the hands of someone who is experienced. While I might acually be able to get a decent recording of the parts to a song I'm not sure my ears will do a good job on the mix portion, and honestly a mentor on the recording side couldn't hurt. My project paramaters look like this.... - Apporximately 10 songs in a folk/folk rock/country style
- not too much complication on any particular song - acoustic guitar, lead and harmony vocals, bass, on most. Some will be embellished with keyboard overlays, lead guitar, BDF drum tracks.
- The project will be recorded in Producer X1 or the latest available Sonar product....
- Final production will likely be in the 1st quarter of 2012.
If you are interested in making a proposal then respond to this post and i'll put your name in the hat! Thanks, Johnny

☄ Helpful
Just to toss out an idea, Johnny...how about offering one of your songs for anyone who wants to have a go at the mix, with the best one earning a prize: a paid gig mixing the rest of the album. Just an idea.

Oh, yes! most definantly that would be my intention... should have been a little more up front on that. I anticipate handing out the same 5 to 8 part song to each person wanting to enter proposals and make a value choice based on that. And it will be a paid gig... you wont retire on me, but I will not waste your time either.

I'd love to give it a go, but I'm too damn busy working on my own 10 track album, let alone someone elses!!! Also estimated to be done around then. But that's for the full mix.

Well, there ya go, that's two volunteers already. Of course, we'll also expect you to post the entries in the Songs forum for comment, no?

Johnny, one more piece of advice: set a firm deadline for submissions. However long it takes the winning mixer to complete song #1, multiply that times 10 for the album. Also, have you considered mastering yet? Submissions should really be unmastered.

So.... unmixed... unmastered.... a contest..... deadline..... sounds pretty cool actually. I don't consider myself to be a "serious engineer type" but I think my mixes are pretty decent and my genre of choice tends to be more on the country side of things. I'd love to have a chance to work on mixing someone else's music.... I tend to do mostly my own with a few rare exceptions. Let me know when you have the first one ready to DL.

Hi Johnny, I can't help you with mix or master but your genre caught my attention. I play pedal steel guitar and really want to be a part of making music. I tried working with a with a few folks a year or so ago, but I was too new at using Sonar so it was talking forever. I decided to wait until I could work quickly. If you want any touches of pedal steel, even just a little, and it's not too late, I would love to do that. No charge. Folk/Folk Rock/Country Style is my thing! Sam

Sam, I hope Johnny saw your offer. I'll bump this thread just to make sure. I'd encourage you to post on the Songs forum, where many collaborations have come together. Some have even formed ongoing virtual bands. Also check out the regular song challenges (CAPE: Collaborative Audio Production Experience) over at The Womb, where teams are put together for a friendly competition - and your mix will likely be done by a well-respected pro. Read a primer on CAPE here.
