Will HS 6XL 32 bit version work on 64 bit machine? Should I upgrade to X1 Studio instead?

This is one of my first posts.  I have just bought a LeNovo laptop, which is still in the box - Windows 7, 64 bit,  4GB/750 GB, i5 processor.  I also have an Alesis multimix 4 channel USB mixer for my input (guitar, vocals, bass, mostly).  Will my 32 bit Home Studio 6XL work on this machine, or do I need to upgrade to X1?

I have been frustrated in the past with not being able to get HS6XL working properly (on previous computers - dropouts, lack of knowledge, etc) which I should have come here earlier to remedy.

Therefore, I am still a rookie with HS6XL (which I bought in 2007!) because of those various issues which caused me to give up in disgust, several times.  (My best experience so far was with the original Guitar Tracks!)  I really would like to finally record and develop my songwriting ideas.

Since I am getting a new machine, I don't know if the 32 bit version of HS6XL will work, and if it does, do I go with that, or upgrade to X1 (Studio version , probably) and start fresh?  Which one might be easier to learn?

Any insights and thoughts would be appreciated!

You're in luck. SHS 6 has both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions on the disk.
If you got the XL pack, too, some of those soft synths may not work since they are 32-bit. And DX synths may not work on the 64-bit machine.
But you can load the 32-bit version on the new computer, right-click the SONAR icon and select 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' which should allow you to run SHS 6 in compatibility with XP 32-bit Service Pack 2. You'll also need to set it to Run As Administrator.
That's what I did on advice from another member who has the same program and a 64-bit computer.
From what I've read, X1 is very different from previous Cakewalk DAWs, in look and workflow, so if you want to learn a new program, seeing how you're going to be learning one anyway, and have some spare change laying around, you may as well go for X1.

if you want to try SHS on the new machine, don't forget to download all the updates and patches that you don't remember DLing 6 years ago.

I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
    Everything is better with pie.

    Greg,

Thanks for your time, knowledge and suggestions.

I will try what you suggested and see how it works.  If things becomes too convoluted, then I will probably splurge on X1 Studio - there is an upgrade 'sale price' of $99 - till Sept 29th, I think...

    Thanks again for your help!
