Wow! This is interesting.
Hi All! Okay. I'm trying to get the fourth and final X1 cd installed, but it tells me I don't have a valid copy of Dimension Pro. What?? I do a search and find a possible solution, but this involves "way" too much work than it should. Especially if they (Cakewalk) just released an Update that boasts to be the cats meow! Jeez!!

What it is is that if you had a previous version of Dim Pro installed. you have to uninstall it, and install the disc of Dim Pro that comes with X1. That did it for me, but then later, I just re-installed Windows 7 and X1 from the discs I bought. It was not necessary to re-install Windows, but I did it for my own sastisfaction. :)

Freddie H old news... check and search the FORUM for help... Old News for those who aren't new owners of X1, Freddie H. Also tried the reinstallation of just Dimension Pro, no luck. As a matter of fact, Dimension Pro continued to show up and function after being uninstalled in the "Add or Remove Programs" in the "Control Panel"! Now that's wierd!! Now I'l try a full reinstall of the whole X1 program.

There's no need to re-install all of X1. If you have Dim Pro still loading as a synth, after you uninstalled it using windows control panel, that means a Dim Pro DLL is on your system somewhere (usually in the Cakewalk VST folder). You have to make sure your old (prior to X1 Dim Pro installation) is uninstalled before you install the Dim Pro disc from X1. Go to the windows control panel and make sure there is no Dim Pro instances in there, If there are, uninstall them. Open any SONAR versions you have, go to the Cakewalk plug ins manager and see if there is a Dim Pro showing up under the VSTi or DXi categories. If so, click on the Dim Pro name and select Properties, then hit the details button to see the full installation path. Go to that path using Windows Explorer and delete the Dim Pro DLL. After you are sure Dim Pro is uninstalled and there are no more Dim Pro DLLs on your computer, install Dim Pro from the X1 disc. That should do it.

A word of warning - the Dim Pro version on the X1 disks is VST only. So if you uninstall the existing version and have projects using the DXi, they will not be able to find the new install (since there is no DXi). Sometime within the first few months when X1 was released I believe someone found a way to have the newer VSTi and the older DXi at the same time. But you'd have to see if you can track that down... if it's even needed.

So...... I went into the "registry" (regedit from the Windows "run" menu), scrolled down to where my Dimension Pro and "DP" folders were located: (My Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Cakewalk Music Software > Dimension Pro (and/or "dp"). I open the appropriate folder (Dimension Pro and/or dp one at a time of course) and in the contents of that folder look for, "Serial Number". Highlight "Serial Number" and go to the "Edit" menu (or right click) and select "Modify" A box opens that allows you to change the Serial Number in the "Value Data" field. I entered the Serial Number that came with Dimension Pro 1.5 in the Sonar X1 package, hit "Okay", and now my 4th and final X1 disc installed with no problem! I can also still use the LE version of Dimension Pro! Cool!

Doesn't it say if you had 8.5.3 Dim. Pro. 1.5 on your system, you can just skip that disc? It was on the welcome(starters guide in my box version, as well as documenting somewhere in the knowledge base. Is this correct? Same w/ Beatscape.

But I (and others) had a problem with installing the 4th and final X1 disc (which has a lot of extras on it) because of not doing this! I did a search and got a lot of info on the subject, but in the end found something that worked for me. Cheers

That's where I am confused, if I only install Disc 1 of X1,, with 8.5.3 on my laptop, I will run into problems with previous projects? Or is this just to get extra content, I already have Expansion packs for Dim. Pro., and don't care about the demos. I even called Cakes Tech, and they told me that I did not need 2nd disc, that's why I am confused! Plus why do they make you jump through hoops, messing with the registry(which I won't do), just to get same version of a synth I have, not getting it, sorry if I jumped in here, I was/am confused! Sorry once again. Wish me luck!

That is good news, but now you have my curiosity up, is it worth all the registry changes for the extra content? By this I mean, I do not do this for a living(which is obvious), but I like to have pretty much everything up to date, but I am talking 10 tracks max, with little plugins. I plan to some day work at it, hence X1 Producer, rather than Audacity. And if you don't want to get into it, I understand completely, was just wondering what this disc 4 holds? Thanks.

One really doesn't need to install it, but the Additional Content DVD has lots of samples and 2 Demo songs on it. However, if you would like to have more sounds to use in your compositions, you might want to install this content. :) Contains the following: DSF (Digital Sound Factory) V2 Classic Keys Hollywood FX Dimension Pro Expansion Pack 1 Dimension Pro Expansion Pack 2 Roland Vintage Sound Library Demo Songs: Shifty Cori Yarkin

Well, I went ahead and put in my disc 1, crossed fingers, and was up and running in 15 or so minutes! With everything imported in from 8.5.3, didn't have to scan, didn't have to do anything! Updated to X1c, put in a project from 8.5, sounded great, a lot to get used to, but thinking I'm going to like it. Just for poops and laughter, tried out Dim. Pro., absolutely no problems, so If this helps anyone reading coming from 8.5.3, and dont want the additional content, smooth as a babies ass! Knock on wood!

First off, thank you, and it's too early for me to get too excited, but it's in and running! I remember when the updates came out for Dim. Pro. and Rapture, everyone was having problems with which folder to put what in..a mess. When I was told that my Dim. Pro. would not work from 8.5, I had to question why, and come to find out you can, so I guess I did get lucky with the updates, and the ease of installation from 1 disc, but that's the way it should be, and I feel for everyone who is having problems, shouldn't be happening! Good luck to everyone, I hope everything turns out great for the whole community, or there may not be one left, Cake is slipping, not bashing, hell I just upgraded, but if I have to pay a dime for a fix, or a bug, I'm done! I just do this for fun now, but would love to someday make a dollar.I'm not liked much around here, so I'm slipping out, good luck, and thanks!

There's no doubt Dimension Pro has it's issues away from the sounds. It's more to do with the logistics. So this thread is a demonstration of a difficult upgrade path. Another issue is samples. D-Pro seems to insist on keeping samples in it's own seperate folder.... you can move these samples but then you have to get into registry hacking.... not good! It would have also been nice to have been given a choice as to where these samples get installed.... but nope. In a nutshell portability and upgradability seem to be it's biggest weaknesses. As a synth itself it's pretty damn good.

Yes it would have been nice to install the last disc, but to go into the registry, just to get extra content, and a couple demos? I just feel you shouldn't have to know "that" much about a computer to install recording software! I know, you shouldn't even have it, if you don't know how to tweak the registry(sarcasm), but what about new customers? I can tweak it, I'm not going to, nor should I have to! They could have sold a lot more copies, if you didn't have to be a computer programmer to run it. Like I said, not everyone does this as a living, and a lot more are not going to, with Cakewalk anyway, if they do not get it straightened out. That's all I have to say, I know Guitar Tracks Pro 4, and Sonar 8.5, went in smooth....but that was before the mad dash.

This is what I really hate installations that don't tell you enough of what is going on, or don't allow you to install where you want.... It should be on your Producer extras disc and I think this is the file path (although you would never guess)... even then I'm not exactly certain... (No readme either) C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples\99 - Vintage Sound Library Although they don't particularly look Rolandy! So I'm probably wrong here. Roland where are you?
