I wouldn't buy it. I don't like being tied to a hardware platform that in 2 years will be outdated and I'll be stuck with it.

Yep - It looks nice but it is a bit too expensive. I think I would have some little difficulties to let this hardware pay itself within a year or two. And just like davendy5 said, by that time it is probably outdated... Still - it looks nice...

I got a chance to play with one at a music store in Vancouver. With Pro Tools though, Not Sonar. It was pretty sweet....

It's an impressive solution by some impressive people but you can't imagine setting up a commercial studio and expect to use one of these controllers with Sonar let alone expect full integration.... one of the reasons Sonar isn't in the top end of the market with respect to the larger scale facilities. We are lucky enough if we can get a surface to integrate with Mackie protocol. If you want to play with this end of the market (surface wise), then you need to review your software of choice unfortunately(?). For now, the best option we have is still the V-Studio 700R and even it is starting to feel slightly left behind since X1 got all sexy.... still very nice, but in need of some integration update. Cheers.

As far as I see it - these controllers are very sexy and so are many others. But one of the reasons I haven't jumped onto a serious dedicated controller is from what people say here: They cost a lot and get outdated fast! Not only that, many of them are their own proprietary system and it's like learning a second DAW/OS etc to controll Sonar. AFAIC, the only reasonable sollution would be the Mackie Control as they are so generic and isn't really tailored for anything but rather work with everything. And as I see it, that's is their strength even over V700 - which is a killer controller no doubt. The other (IMO) sensible option would be the Artist Series from Euphonix but I don't know how they work with Sonar, if at all. Using them with Nuendo is great tho. However, physical faders are seriously great to work with but for now I just use simple hardware controllers on different MIDI inputing devices.

Hi Mully,i totally agree with you,but why?!I'm a pro and in many post i have written my experiences with Sonar X1 and other daw.Sonar is the best daw for me and many of my clients(my last post)and it has nothing to envy to other....the proof is that superb Company like Euphonix have worked to improve compatibility between Artist Series and Sonar. In my opinion the pro ambient is too much stopped on old convictions. Best. Roby

Greetings Back Yeah, it says so. I just haven't heard how well the Euphonix protocoll is implemented in Sonar. The Artist Series is a serious piece of kit and wouldn't mind getting a set of them;)

Hi Roby... for sure Sonar is up with the whole 'pro' level when it comes to software. No question. The point I see continually is the lack of 'serious' hardware support for it to even give it a sniff of being a contender for top end facilities. The whole Mackie protocol thing is yesterday's paper now and I firmly believe the next step for Roland is to get serious with a growing range of surfaces.. the 700 series should really be the start of a good thing IMO. Sonar has so much to offer and you can produce commercial results yes, but we could seriously use options like the Icon & C|24 for example that Avid offer. The Artist Series does look good but I wouldn't swap the 700C for one. Cheers.
