Midi Clips

I have dragged a Midi clip from Kontakts George Dukes Soul Treasures and in the PRV view it just appears on one line, is there anyway to show all the individual notes and also copy the clip to another soft synth?

Change the Edit Filter drop-down in the track head from Clips to Notes to see the inline Piano Rool View, or double-click it to open in the full PRV. To copy it, leave the Edit Filter set to clips, and Ctrl-drag and drop it where you want it. Hold shift to drag it to constrain the start time so it stays in sync with the original when dragged to another track (either MIDI or Simple Instrument, which combines a MIDI and Audio track with a synth assigned).

EDIT: You said you dragged the clip to the PRV, but it sounds like you're in the Track View.

Unfortunately that has not worked. I am in track view but when I go into PRV the midi clip is on one line?? If I click on notes in the drop down menu the clip is still on one line. Are there different types of midi?

What's supposed to be in the clip?. There are Type 0 and type 1 MIDI files (type 0 combines all events in a single track), but I don't think that's your issue. You'd still see individual notes on different note number lines in the PRV, unless its a single drum part...?

    Can you link a screenshot?

After doing some searching I think that is the problem that the files are Midi Type 0, so is there a way to import them as Type 1 or a way to convert them?

    I appreciate your help!

In a Type 0 file, the different parts are differentiated by being on different MIDI channels. Select the track, go to Process > Run CAL..., and click on Split Channel to Tracks.CAL.

The Ran Cal did not work , a bit more searching and I now think it is a Kontakt .nki file. Is there anything that can be doen with this file type? Should I make a seperate posting on here re kontakt .nki files?

I believe an .NKI file is an instrument definition file for Kontakt. Any MIDI loops it might contain would probably be in a proprietary format that can only be accessed via Kontakt (or Kontakt Player) with the instrument definition loaded into it (i.e start by inserting Kontakt or Kontakt Player soft synth in SONAR's synth rack, and then load the George Duke instrument from the Kontakt library browser in the synth GUI). I'm surprised SONAR is showing anything at all when the .NKI is dragged directly to a track.

If the George Duke Soul Treasures instrument ships with separate MIDI loops (i.e. .MID files) to go with the instrument, they are likely stored in another folder. You'll need to check to NI documentation or go to the NI forum unless someone happens along here that is familiar with it.

Sure thing. I suppose if I were a really swell guy, I would go hunt up the PDF User Manual for the product and figure it out, but I'm not feeling that energetic right now. .

But, seriously, come back and summarize the solution for posterity when you get it squared away.

I'm mildly interested because I have at least one George Duke CD around here somewhere, and I believe I saw him in concert playing for Sting a few eons ago.
