How is area selection handled in sonar?

Say I want to select an area and delete it from an audio track?

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

I noticed if I select all tracks, then highlight empty space, delete gets grayed out.
My intro for a track is too long, so I want to delete the hole too.

Why does an area have to have notes/wave files in order to be able to delete it from the track list?

In X1, with Smart Tool, drag across upper half of clip to select, press delete key. Or choose Erase Tool (far right in Tools HUD) and drag across upper half of clip. In both cases you'll end up with two clips. To combine back to one clip with deletion intact, select both clips (ctrl+click bottom half of each clip with Smart or Select tool), right-click on one of the clips and choose Bounce to Clip(s).

Thanks Step D i am more used to the old way of doing it in MC4, 5, where you had to split stuff and such.

Yeah, if you want to do it the split way, just hold down the alt key with the Smart Tool selected and click the clip where you want to split. Or there's also a split tool (third from right in Tool HUD). And the S shortcut key will still split a selected clip at the now time.
