Sonar audio quality question

Hello,
Ok, I seem to have a loss in sound quality.. this is what i mean. If i connect my guitar to an effects processor and the output goes out of my speakers, I get this really nice sound they way ive made it. But when I record it into sonar, and play it through sonar the sound that comes out of the same speakers but output from sonar, is different. as if i've lost  clarity and loudness. Could it be sonar? or my audio interfaces AD concerter? I record in 24bit 41.1kHz.  I know about "Light weight bass syndrome" but this is a guitar into an effects processor and then to the input of my audio interface to sonar. The speakers are connected to the same device. the audio interface.
Is that something you expirience?

Thanks!

    Which interface are you using?

Of coarse if you add things to your signal path the sound can change.
How are you comparing the sound?
You say the same speakers are hooked to your audio interface AND your guitar processor? Or are you monitoring both the input ( guitar EFX)  and the computer output from the interface by direct monitoring?

    hey!!!
i got my guitar pluged in to my guitar fx prcssesor, and the output of the fx processor to the line in of the audio interface and then record to sonar. the speakers are connected to the line out of the audio interface. So when I play the guitar, that sound goes into the audio interface and sonar and out of the output of the audio interface to speaekers. When recorded in sonar the sound goes from sonar in to the audio interface via usb and out from the speakers (audio interface output).
So the sound should be the same. But the recorded signal sound much lower quality, as if the AD conversion from my audio interface ws not good quality or sonar plays it back in lower quality. But the difference is quite big!

you didn't answer cactus music's first question - what audio interface are you using?

also, you say from the "output of the fx processor to the line in of the audio interface" - which FX PROCESSOR are you using?  is it STEREO output?  are you only sending the left channel of the FX processor output to the audio interface?  if so that would cause a major difference in sound.

Yes the sound will be optimized in stereo, good one Reese. So are you recording a stereo track?
From what I read you are direct monitoring from your interface, If I knew which one I could verify this. Most have a blend knob that mixes the input signal with the return from the computer. Sound like you have not set up your monitoring so that it's a balance of in/out.
The other issue could be not setting levels properly.
Pay attention to things like ,peak light on interface, the Track recording meters in Sonar, Master buss output levels.

Hey guys!! thanks for all your replies!! :)

I am using a tascam US 144. The fx rposeccor is a Boss GX700 (but the same happens with other effects processors and stuff I use. Even with direct in recordings.)and im going out mono from it (left output/mono). i am recording mono. My levels and all are good! The question is though is it possible that the quality of the AD is not good? (So its no chance that its a sonar problem) I get a loss of "bigness" and clarity when i play the recorded track through sonar.

Impedance mismatch? Got a mixer handy you can insert between the effects unit and the Tascam? Poor ADC, though possible, is unlikely. I'd be looking at the analog components, which includes the analog side of the interface.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
