Some sound cards allow you to assign a "loop back" input, e.g. Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.
Not sure if SPS-66 has this facility? (Check the manual).
If you have this facility make sure you don't monitor the channel in order to prevent feedback.

Another workaround could be to assign a couple of audio outputs into a couple of audio inputs in your sound card using a couple of cables.

    Cheers.

I tried doing some research and a lot of people are saying to use audacity and use the stereo mix. Then I read about win vista/7 doesn't have the stereo mix. Is there a simple program that justs records sound coming out of the default playback device?

You can try audacity if it suits your needs.... it should just work if it's going to work.

However Sonar is quite capable as well if you know how to route your input/outputs of your card (see my previous post on how to do that). I do it this way as I try to minimize on the amount of software I install on my PC.

I don't think SPS has loopback and I don't have the right equipment right now. So if possible, a simple program that does the job will do, unless there is another way to do it on sonar.

So have a go and download Audacity, it's quite good and I use it on my other non DAW PCs. Other people here may have different suggestions.

One way to get this done is use your onboard audio for the streaming audio and use a patch cord to connect it to your SPS-66 FireWire audio interface.

Sonar can then use the SPS-66 for recording.

All you need do is activate the on board audio to use windows sounds and make it the default audio device. In Sonar don't have it selected only have the 66 selected.

+1 for Audacity. I use it (with YouTube) all it time for tunes, backing tracks, sound effects from movie clips, guitar chatrooms, etc. Got a good suite of decent effects/editing, export functions, easy to use, blah blah blah. Did I mention its free? Records whatever's goin thru yer sound card. And you can then import your saves into X1 as audio files. Its ferkin sweet.
