Effects problems

I have tried to download the "free vst" effects on the cakewalk site but my computer cannot seem to open them.I have windows 7 64 bit and it cant open dll files at all which is like 80% of the free vst's.Can anyone help me please. Also what is the blue cake/ect all about?

    Welcome to the forum.
    What do you mean by "open them"?
    You don't open them, you insert them in a track's FX bin.

    In other words: You put the dll-files where you have all your VSTs. Then you have the VST visible for selecting when you  want to insert an FX in the bin of the track.

    SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
