SOFT SYNTH HELP???

i've been having trouble with using soft synths like TTS-1 ad GrooveSynth (on sonar 8.5 producer). i create a mdi track, manually input some notes via the staff view, select the output to whatever softynth i'm using. Right now i'm using Roland Groove Synth. i use all the knobs to fine-tune the sound exactly how i want it, but whenever i press play, it immedeatly reverts to it's normal setting. what am i doing wrong?

I don't remember for certain on the groove synth, but at least on TTS-1, you should be changing the patch from the MIDI track, not from the face (GUI) of TTS-1.

I change the patches in the GUI all the time and they seem to work the same as using the properties.  But if there is a patch change as an event somewhere this will override this.
Are you starting from scratch with a new template or messing with already sequenced tracks?

With the TTs-1 I customize it using the GUI interface then save that.
When I start a new song I select the set up that will work closest for that song. It makes it fast to record as then all I do I select Ch3 if I want say an organ. Ch4 for Horns etc. I've used this method since the days of Atari and sound modules. Ch 1 has always been my Bass etc.
A little discovery i made  is that if you hold the mouse over the TTS-1 Mixer GUI instrument icon of that channel a very large selection of voices will appear that are not on the list under properties. Example there are way more organ sounds. Also all voices can be edited and saved.
To me the TTS-1 is the reason I use Sonar. It blows away any synth module I ever owed and I paid over $1,500 for too!! You need to tweak it just like all synths that were ever made.

Anyhow if the patches are changing embedded patches are usually hidden at the very beginning of a song.
Does it change if you start in the middle?
Try setting the patch to "none" under the properties if all else fails.
Also make sure your not sharing channels.

You have to write the changes in one of the User Normal Banks otherwise it reverts to the original preset which cannot be changed. Then you have to save the bank. When you use the TTS-1 next time, remember to load the bank. Its a bit of a convoluted way to do it, but it works.
