Read the manual for Sonar. Then read it for the interface.

You appear to have 2 soundcards (M-Audio and E-MU). How is everything connected up?

Yes, it sounds as though you need to enable the drivers of the Fast Track.. Go to Options>Audio. I forget which page it is on, but if you are using ASIO drivers you only get one choice. PIck ASIO, FAst Track and then check every slot on every page to make sure you have Fast Track up. Then your buses/inputs will "see" the Fast track so you can use it. @

Sonar doesn't know or care whether the audio input is coming from a mic or a guitar. It only sees the audio interface. Don't forget that condenser mics require a preamp and phantom power or they won't work. I'm not sure if the Emu has a preamp. If not, you need to get one.

You can't record audio from a microphone onto a MIDI track. Bad advice.

I was being just a tad sarcastic, sorry. Now the OP has returned and is showing an eagerness to learn I will offer some help/ You don't mention which OS you are using without that info I can't be exact on helping. But after you install the proper drivers go to the audio devices menue and make sure the FT is selected as the default device. I will continue step by step when you get back to me.
