Importing Audio: 1. As Mono Tracks; 2. Copy To Project Folder

2 Questions on Importing Audio Popup Options: 1. If a track is already a Mono track, is there a benefit or problem with checking the "Import as Mono Track" box? 2. If I have already placed the audio files I am about to import in a sub-folder of the project I'm working on, I have been leaving the "Copy Audio to Project Folder" unchecked to avoid having duplicate files / wasting hard drive space. Is this right / does this make sense? Or does this lead to potential problems down the road? Danka!

I think that option is there because they are assuming you are importing the file from somewhere else on your computer and that would put it were it belongs for future transfers of the folder. Otherwise that data would get lost. So by pre placing the file in the project folder is just doing about the same thing, but manually, that's all.
Also an audio track takes up very little "room" any more, not worth thinking about really.
If the track is mono and imports as mono without checking the box then that answers that question.

    1) no - this is for importing a stereo track into sonar as a mono track.  sonar will sum the 2 tracks into a mono track.

    2) while your thinking about unchecking the copy audio to project folder is correct, I agree with cactus music that it's not worth the hassle in case sonar gets it's pointers confused.  leaving audio in different places of your hard drive for a project does not seem like a good idea to me.

personally I would recommend using the PER PROJECTS AUDIO FOLDER as well and not leave everything in a GLOBAL audio folder.

Here's one scenario in which you wouldn't want to check the "copy to audio folder" option: assembling and mastering a CD in a separate project.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
