Does the issuing power of currency rest with the banks or the government. Perhaps I don't understand what the phrase "issuing of currency" means but it seems like we should have more to fear from the government, in that regard, than the banks. Again, maybe I just don't understand what TJ is saying. BTW bayoubill, you said you are a history buff, world history? American history? I like history too but don't really know as much has I would like. :-)

Kc2ine... I'm a big time student of mythology and religions. When I watched Zeitgeist, which is basically another of those movies... The minute they started laying down the basic background upon which they build their theories, something tickled the wrong way. Being well versed into the matter, it was obvious to me that they omitted facts, twisted others, changed dates, and took certain shortcuts so that they could back up their theories. My issue with that is that they promote their little film as eye-opening, the truth. We were off for a bad start. I watched the whole thing nevertheless but started taking notes. Some of their references I knew were plain wrong, some "evidences" were nothing more than theories only accepted by a few questionable authorities. But I did push forward and moved on to verify what I had no idea about. Turned out that the vast majority of their so-called information and obscure references can pretty much always be linked to conspiracy sites. Fragments of the information they use is available everywhere of course, but in its raw form and in its context, it differs greatly from what they make it say. I encourage you to visit their boards to see how totalitarian their quest for "the truth" is - when you start questioning, you're very likely to get banned. In other words, they do exactly what they say the evil-doers do. The problem with this is that they open up w/ a truth - that is, that you don't know the truth and/or you've been lied to. Then they reel you in by saying they'll tell you the real thing. But they're only selling you another lie. Just because the version differs from the official position and is at the opposite end doesn't make it true. That's how cults work, and those guys are damn near to what you'd call "fanatics". These things aren't eye opener - they only invite you to burry your head in their sandbox. Furthermore... These are theories. They may be darn good at packaging them and marketing them as the truth, but these are just theories - and which are holding on fairly questionable "truths" and pseudo-evidences. That makes them even worst enemies of the truth than any of the people they blame, as far as I'm concerned.

Rain, I agree there are many silly conspiracy theory groups out there but I don't think so Inside Jobs has anything to do with them. Have you really seen it? This movie got oscar and is based on facts, real interviews with involved people. I don't see any lies there and I worked in financial institutions. Tell me which you're referring to? There is nothing there about religion or mythology, just straight business and money! no conspiracy too.

I haven't seen Inside Job yet. I was referring to Zietgeist (I thought you might have seen that one too) - the OP quote was also in that one, as a whole part of the movie is about the Central Bank and which goes out of its way to promote the idea of an inside job. I was assuming that this was yet another conspiracy theory movie. My sincere apologies for that.

bapu I don't much care what they do in NYC as long as they stay off my lawn. this is the dumbest statement I've heard. Because of such attitude they do with people what they want. If you think that doesn't concern you, you are more naive, ignorant (don't want to use stronger word) then 5 years old kid.

I recognize those folks! :) One of them nearly run over me and my fiancée in his car at the lights last night. Another one rushed to the cashier at Subway with his Cola and insisted that the guy put my sandwich that he was preparing aside to let him pay asap because he was in a hurry. So was I, and I was there first, buddy... Why not ask ME? Another one let his dog take a crap just next to our door and didn't pick it up. I stepped in it. Many of them probably have a few gigs of MP3s and movies they haven't paid for on their computer. Wait, is that even a legal version of Windows? What's that, a borrowed copy of MS Office? Clothes made by children in sweatshops? If you want to help make the world a better place, just DO IT! In your life, w/ the people you meet. Don't wait for the whole world to change, as it never will. And if it did, we probably wouldn't be good enough for it.

Words of wisdom.... hmmm "It is more blessed to give than it is to receive." Jesus "There is nothing new under the sun". Solomon "There are three faithful friends - an old wife, an old dog, and ready money." Benjamin Franklin G.K. Chesterton quotes... “Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.” “The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.” “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.” “Without education, we are in a horrible and deadly danger of taking educated people seriously.” “There are two ways to get enough. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.” “If there were no God, there would be no atheists.” “It is absurd for the Evolutionist to complain that it is unthinkable for an admittedly unthinkable God to make everything out of nothing, and then pretend that it is more thinkable that nothing should turn itself into everything.” _________________________________________ "There are not enough Indians in the world to defeat the Seventh Cavalry." George Armstrong Custer (maybe some wisdom can be gained from this one...) "As much as I converse with sages and heroes, they have very little of my love and admiration. I long for rural and domestic scene, for the warbling of birds and the prattling of my children." John Adams "Among the natural rights of the colonists are these: First a right to life, secondly to liberty, and thirdly to property; together with the right to defend them in the best manner they can." Samuel Adams note: (had the phrase "right to property" been used rather than "the pursuit of happiness", many of our problems would be by it.. solved). "Don't taunt the alligator until after you've crossed the creek." Dan Rather "I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done." Lucille Ball "Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal." Henry Ford "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." Socrates "Winners never quit and quitters never win." Vince Lombardi "Wisdom is the quality that keeps you from getting into situations where you need it." Doug Larson "Great and good are seldom the same man." Winston Curchill Julien
