Yep, Trilian is fantastic, but no matter what you use, you'll likely need to do some tweaking to the MIDI.
There are really great sounding basses in Trilian, and if you spend some time learning how to really dig in to
the depths of this instrument, it's Very Very usable.
It will cost you a bit, there are all flavors of basses, synth basses, and even the Chapman Stick.
I doubt you'd be dissappointed with Trilian, once you get to really know it you might just want to use it for everything.
Just be aware, there are lots of velocity layers and articulations available, so it's most likely that you'll really need
to tweak your MIDI that was programmed for something else.
It sounds from your post tht you'd quite like to avoid doing that.
Unfortunately, Trilian is not available as a download so you can't try it out.
I've got Kontakt and the scarbee basses too, but if I don't want to actually play a real bass for something, Trilian is IT.
IMHO Trilian is easier to use, more versatile, and you can squeeze literally any flavor sound you want out of it.
