Recording bug or am I missing something?

Hello everyone,
I have recently installed X1c  64bit along with a VS-100  and I'm having an insurmountable problem.I can't record for more than a few bars.I have a drum kit miked up into a mixer and the mixer going into inputs 1,2,3, and 4 on the VS.I have adjusted latency to the longest possible time to no avail but have discovered that the problem  seems to be level related as in if a particularly loud snare hit is delivered X1 stops recording.X1 will start recording without the record being pressed simply if it receives a loud enough level and it stops in the same way.I have reduced the levels coming out of the mixer which helps X1 record for about 30 bars ors so but then it stops.I have used the same setup with Reaper and it works flawlessly with that apart from some control surface niggles so I don't think the VS-100 is at fault the problem only happens with X1 am I missing something? The computer has all wireless connections shut off and has never been on the net I have checked the latency with DPC latency checker which shows that the machine is capable of handling recording and playback with no dropouts or glitches,I'm at a loss any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.

Do you have any FX in the project that might react to a high level in way that causes a problem for SONAR?

I'm not familiar with VS-100, but does it maybe have an optional mode that stops the audio clock if the input clips?

    Hi,
There are no FX being used it's straight from VS input to Sonar to Disc as far as I'm aware there is no option to stop the audio if the input clips.Inputs 1&2 have a gain control and on the other inputs levels have to be adjusted from the external device.I have reduced the levels from the mixer to the VS but that isn't much use as even if it records without interruption(which it doesn't)the recorded signals are lower  than  optimum. If I use the VS with Reaper then I can record without a hitch.I can also use the VS with an old version of Logic on an XP machine and it works as it should with that too so the odd one out is Sonar which the VS is intended to partner with seamlessly. The control surface aspect functions perfectly with Sonar but  this recording problem  renders the program utterly useless for me.

         thanks for the reply
