clean audio folder (2011)
hi all so the most recent threads on this subject are from 2009 so i figured i'd ask. my "audio data" folder and my "audio" folder (from a previous version of sonar) are massive. i'm trying to clear them out some. whats the best way to go about this? i ran the clean audio folder tool and it found like a dozen files that i can delete, and i find that hard to believe. there's gotta be way more than that. i just tried the cakewalk audio finder tool and it finds a lot of files that have "missing" audio. that missing audio is most likely in the other audio folder. if i move everything from my audio folder into my regular "audio data" folder from my current setup, do you think it will make the search more efficient and make it have an easier time finding which files are and aren't necessary? btw, the current audio data folder is 25.6gigs, the older "audio" folder is 51.6gigs, and then also i'm now realizing that somehow along the way wavs associated with projects got stored in the /cakewalk projects/ folder too totally somewhere around 10.5gigs... it's a bit much really haha. help! :-) Thanks, Dave

With that case in the past I've renamed the old ones as '.cwpX or what ever. I've since pretty much switched to 'Consolidate Audio for house keeping. You get a packet of only the current valid stuff in a new folder (with a CWP? Not sure, maybe I've just putting my own in. hmm... Not using an audio folder for each proj? Sounds... scary.

What I do is to open projects I still want to work on and do a save as to a new audio/back up drive. Make sure to check the copy audio to new folder option. Only the good stuff will be put there and the rest left behind. If your projects were on a second drive just pull the drive and put it on a shelf as a back up. New drive will be squeaky clean and only stuff you need on the new audio drive. Messing with the clean audio folder option is ,, er messy..

You know I always forget about that. And it skips copying the unused bits as well? 'Consolidate doesn't let you pick a destenation, Save as might even save a few clicks. (Guess I'll just try it. :>)

Yes, 'save as' is your friend here. Save as to another destination, NOT in your Cakewalk Projects folder, making sure "copy audio with project" is selected. Once this is done, you can happily delete the original, then move the copy back to wherever you want.

I read the OP so that he does not use Per Project Audio Folders. IMO, things were much more clear, simple and safe if he did.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
