Customization is coming back, at least in PC Expanded

FYI, customization is coming back...

Anyway, great for the mod people if Expanded modules can be customized because currently I'm not planning to purchase those goodies as I have already enough plug-ins.

"Now you can create a single, powerful, multi-effect processor using any or all of the audio effects you use in SONAR X1."

I take my words back.  If FX Chains 2.0 is only in Expanded, I may want to purchase it.

"Introduced in SONAR X1, FX Chains provide a powerful and flexible way to organize and create combinations of multiple effects including DSP-based effects. FX Chains 2.0 expands the concept from simple effects containers to fully customizable plug-in interfaces, complete with user-definable skins. Knobs and sliders are assignable to any effect parameters within the chain and are available for ACT control. Drag and drop FX Chains from the Browser, between tracks, or to individual clips."

If I understood correctly, I could make my own interface for my NI Guitar Rig 5 Softube plug-ins to get rid of that huge Guitar Rig interface. Sound very good... if it works that way! :)

Is this customization within the FX chains themselves or overall in the X1 GUI?

If its back, then that great news for many peeps.

Panup, if you ever get to where you can totally re-skin the XP console that would be great.  There is so much wasted space in the stock design.

Yeah, from my understanding, this new skin customization is only for the FX Chain, not the entire X1 UI.

Yea why only on FX chain.  Thats like "Pimp my ride" but your limited to only work on the Dashboard of your jalopy.

I hope its the full thing!  God knows X1 should have never lost it...

    moffdnb,

GUI technology behind X1 and 8.5 are so different that it was not possible to use 8.5 style color customization in X1. Before X1, color customization was done by changing solid RGB colors of screen elements. In X1 most colors in the GUI are now part of the new 'Skylight' interface which is made of hundreds of little images. It's obviously not as straightforward to change colors of Skylight objects (containing transparency, shadows, many colors, specific meaning of colors etc.) than what it was in 8.5.

Customizing the whole Skylight interface is a BIG task.  Cakewalk could introduce some carefully defined themes for starters for those who'd like to see other colors than the light blue and three gray shades.  On the other hand I understand if Cakewalk stays in the current theme as it's the style they have chosen. New official color themes would interfere the official X1 style (used in marketing).

I could be wrong but so far I have not seen announcements of the full featured Skylight Editor...

Thanks Panup.  I dig your work too.

I know why alright but I'm always gonna be disgruntled with the lack of customization.  Major part of SONAR for too long and its gone.

Even Indents are gone.  ARRGGHHHH   that surely was a ball dropped.

I know they'll pick it up again but when?

By 2011 standards... that approach just seems primitive.
