[Answered] Is PC4K EXP/Gate VST driven ?

Hi,

After installing the gate/expender I could not see it in the add module of the ProChannel. I rescanned my VST plug in and the module showed up.

Question: Is this module a VST plugin inside a Prochannel container ?

If yes, I would probably spend the money in the future directly with  the plug-in developer and be able to share the plug-in across applications and platforms.

I had mixed feeling about the Extended offer.  After maintaining a Producer status for years, I felt they found new way to offer upgrade and create parallel version.  Now, I am getting in a more serious questioning on the Cakewalk future.

Is borrowing to third party the only way to bring innovation ?
If yes why not just team with them and offer a discount to us.

After a serious ride in extended, my feeling is that my $79 would have a better value with plugin developer like Voxengo. Love the product, love the tools, but concern about the next wave.

My two cents,

jp

    Precisely what it is.

Handy having it available under your nose on every channel though, no?

I like the uniform GUI aspect of the pro channel. The effects themselves could be improved and I wonder if Cakewalk has motivation to do this in the future.

I wonder what other companies have been approached to design PC vsts?
I wonder is there a shortcut to collapse all PC units simultaneously, I can't find it if there is.

The ProChannel has been very useful, don't get me wrong. It was a major part of X1. My concern is more in the development where Cakewalk ask me more money for plugins that are ProChannel only. Populating the prochannel seems like a bottleneck as I cannot insert the FX bin in there.

So, with such excellent plugins available for free, like the VarietySound, for example, VST seems like the way to go as they are more uniiversal and a bit more open source.

I think a great way to get there would be to have a more procedural approach to the ProChannel and the Fx bin. Having the capability to patch between both world.

I would also add that using the Softube in the prochannel added latency to a level that cannot be used on my platform during tracking. So I would like to see a tracking option like on Izotope Nectar that reduce the CPU activity of the plugin during tracking, maybe by opting for a lower resolution. I have a decent workstation.

Basically, if there is no gain in the efficiency of the plugin, why go ProChannel instead of VST ?  It's always good to see code optimization inside an application. When you use plug-ins you have to live with the non-integration aspect. I guess I was hoping that the ProChannel would go this way and not just becoming a branded plugin container.

less choices usually means better mixes....

The Pro channel seems like it would be nice.

Is this module a VST plugin inside a Prochannel container ?

It is in a sense - however there is a new API that provides access to additional SONAR params for things like metering and other ProChannel-specific functionality.  This allows for the creation of a VST that could be used traditionally in an FX Bin as well as a ProChannel module with different UI's for each.

I wonder if Cakewalk has motivation to do this in the future.
Yes we do, but we can't do it alone that is why we made attempts to open it up and make it as easy as possible to create modules for.  The original intention of the ProChannel was to offer a replacement for the inline Sonitus EQ that did more than just EQ.  We received a lot of feedback from users who wanted a compressor on each strip for example.  After X1 the overwhelming feedback we got was - give us more ProChannel options and modules.

I wonder is there a shortcut to collapse all PC units simultaneously, I can't find it if there is.

There is not but this is a great idea, a CTRL + Click to collapse all could def. be handy.  Consider it requested on your behalf.
