First measure of clip disappears after finished recording.

Hi guys, here we go again.  I searched and found alot of threads on the subject, none of them seem to be resolved.  I think I found a solution for me and my specific setup, so I guess I'll throw this up here for comments.

I have CWSPE 8.5  with an M-audio 1010lt sound card. The machine it is in is a dedicated box with nothing but windows 7 and vst/vstis installed.  It has an AMD thuban 6 core with 4 gigs of ram (dont laugh :()  and a raid 5 setup with your old fashioned disk drives.

Well, I have been having issues with recorded clips disappearing after I hit the space bar (this probably sounds familiar to some of you).  I figured it was a driver issue since M-Audio is infamous for their drivers.   The situation gradually deteriorated over the course of one session to the point where the first exact measure of any clip is cut off even though it looks normal during recording.

Obviously, all of this is unacceptable so I delete the soundcard drivers, cleaned the registry for m-audio software, then removed teh sound card.  I rebooted without the card installed.  I then turned of the computer, reinstalled the card, turned on the computer, installed software.

Same issues.  I repeated this process with multiple drivers for my card since I keep the older ones on hand too.

So after it was all said and done, I deleted the aud.ini file.  That worked.  Oh well, it wasn't even the pic cache this time haha.

    audio engine?

    buffer settings?

i have accidentally dragged the leading edge of a clip from left to right, using the mouse for another command, and thought i had lost part of a clip, only to rediscover it when i grabbed the front end of the clip and drug it back the other way....

    ??

    sorry, not much help.

Buffer settings are minimum (2.8 sec) so I can play live.  This has never been an issue in the last year.  I can reproduce the issue with a completely new project with no plugins.

I had tried extending the beginning of the clip to see if the audio data was there.....it was not.

Yes, absolutely. Its intermittent, it only happens sometimes.

I will record a few takes on a track but sometimes one of them will just disappear right after I hit the space bar or R key to stop recording.

My CPU use is around 3% on all 6 processors.  the HDD is around 10%.
