external preamps using lightpipe to connect to v700R

Hey guys,
I hope this note finds everyone doin well... I have a question that I'm trying to find an answer to..I'm hoping you guys can help me out.. I'm foaming at the mouth for the new UA 710D set of preamps.. The twinfinity has an incredible palette of tone to choose from and the thought of havining one box with four twinfinitys and 4 UA 1175 type compressors boggles the mind...LOL.. Any way I have been pondering this... The 710D has its own A/D converters..which make sense when transferring data via lightpipe... when it inters the interface such as our wonderful 700R does it get pushed straight to the DAW without any further processing??? It doesn't make any sense to me that it would have to pass through another set of converters... What is the path of the signal once it enters the 700R??? Please forgive my ignorance.. I have a good idea it just passes thru ....but I want to know for SURE..I do know that it can be monitored thru the 700R.which is sweet!!

    Yes you're absolutely right.

Every sound comming from the UA will be what will be recorded.

No colour from the VS700R at all. It will act only as the entrance for the UA to Sonar.

And yes this unit is really one of the best value on the market! Four extremely versatile high quality pres that will complement the VS to perfection, and 4 spare premium AD input to patch anything at line level you want.

    Hard to beat.

Have you heard of Sebatron? Seems like they make really nice and "affordable" tube pres in 4 pack.  This could one ideal setup patched in the 710D plus the VS!

I have a joe meek twin Q to hook up.. I hadn't used it since I purchased the 700... Im really astounded on how present and clear the preamps in the 700r are..The conversion and clocking are prestine too..Thats why I purchased the second one... as far as the UA 710D...I really like the Idea of having the solid state pre, and tube pre phaze matched in the same path to dial in the best of both worlds... plus the 1175 style compressors...I GOT TO HAVE IT !!!!

The UA will use its own conversion and be sent straight through the 700 to SONAR (or whatever sound software you are using).  What comes out of the UA will be what is recorded.

Hmmm have you tried to hook the TwinQ via spdif or AES? Does it have good converters? Or you have an older version without the conversion...

I'm asking because I'm interested in this unit and wonder about its conversion quality, if it is on par with the VS.

    Thanks!

I have used the spif on the joe meek... it is a good preamp for the money and has alot of features.. EQ,optical compresssion.. and yes the converters are very clean and the clock is good too.. I bought it a good while back, way before I bought the 700... The pres in the 700 are just as good as the joe meek and the converters too.. I just dont like the digital compression of the 700..They tend to color the sound a little too much for me
